I'll tell ya what I did... I started with 6 seeds, 5 popped, 4 were girls. I was lucky enough to score a 400 hps for free, (well sorta) and I bought 4 26w cfls some wire "Y" sockets, 2 gallon pots, scotts premium, some veg nutes. and just grow them like anything else...pretend their tomatoes or peppers. Oh yea, and FANS! they need sun, rain and wind and they are in a pitch black closet. So you gotta make all that happen. and the more consistent you are the more your plants will reward you. You will need a loupe eventually, i got one off ebay for 3.50 free s/h. and do some reading on harvest and curing. good luck man, and its well the work.

Least 15 3gal pots. Soil for ur 1st grow IMO. Decide on a budget first and I'll go into more detail about the rest.

Dadio gave ya a good tip. Read.
Keep your first grow simple.

You need light. Go to eBay if you can and if you can't google Hydro shops in your area.
I have seen impressive results with a 400W HPS. Buy a complete set. Reflector and bulb included.
Order some beans from a good seed company. IDK what you like. Get a nice Indica and you won't regret it.
From a nursery or home supply center buy four bags of Miracle Grow Organic Choice. I recommend it because I have used it and know what's in it. You'll also need:
A ph meter
Any all purpose fertilizer for plants. Peters is good. MG is good. Even tomato fertilizer is good.
You need plastic flower pots that nurseries throw away. They will sell them to you cheap. Buy 10 of each size; 4", 2qt, 3gallon
A fan. Mb one that stands on it's own.
Start thinking about ventilation. How do you exhaust old air and replenish it with new air? You don't need to buy it yet.
That will get you going.
