flood and drain is almost foolproof. And pretty forgiving if you use hydroton.
Flood 15 mintes every 3 hours while lights are on. Dont flood when lights are off.

What is the reason for not feeding during lights out? Is 15 minutes every three hours for veg. Flwr. or both. I water my flowering three times a day 3 minute intervals and one of these is when lights are out. Here are some pictures.
This is my first grow so watering has just been a guess for me other than on-line info. I am using ebb n flow 300.00 in flowering, grow dan cubes 4x4 transplanted into hydroton tray from drip system bought from home depot 188.00 that I have in veg. hereView attachment 2269804

Water is needed for photosynthesis. No photosynthesis is going on when the lights are out. So your plant's don't really need water. There also isn't much evapotation going on with lights out, so it's not getting sucked up through osmotic pressure in the xylem.
Photosynthesis:
6h2o + 6co2 ----------+Light energy----> 6o2 +c6h12o6
water+carbon dioxide --> light catalyst---> oxygen + glucose
No light means no photosynthesis. So your plants doesn't need to be drinking.
Depending on how much water your medium retains, you can flood more or less frequently. When I ran ebb&flow in net pots (no hydroton), I flooded every hour
Clown baby gave a good explanation for why not to flood during the night. I was flooding once during the night cause im inexerienced and didnt want my plants to die because of drought. ended up almost rotting my roots as they sat in water for 12 hours. I flood for 10 minutes every 2 hours now and could probably flood every hour with no problems.

Go DWC dont have to worry about over/under watering just supply oxygen to your rez with an air pump and stone

Dwc isnt the easyest, its prone to many issue, if your looking for asure thing go ebb and flow on flood tables

If you interested in gardening but does not have enough space then hydroponics is best option for you. It required fully operational and productive grow room with a significant amount of proper lighting. You should also take care rust as it can affect your hydroponic system adversely.

no disrespect..that's a broad/vague question...Variables man..variables..how much loot you got? how much room? how much time u got to devote..what kind of water u gonna use..(sum high quality h20 as the waterboy says?)...electricity an issue?..u gotta answer some basic questions to urself before venturing furtuer dude..I started with soil..now DWC..best o luck.
