Hi Guys,

Happy to be here!
Just trying to setup a grow tent etc in my loft and have bought the Advanced Platinum LED P150

I bought this on the recommendation of http://www.growweedeasy.com/ but on a few forums ive been on they are saying i need at least 7 of these to light a tent that 1.2x1.2x2.0 (meters)
I assumed that i would only need this light and thats it!
I was gonna plant feminised OGKush seeds

So for that size tent is this led light a waste of time? and should i go to HPS?

Thanks for any help

Platinum is overpriced "build in USA" (Actually China, it's rebranded Eshine) Epicrap lights.
In a 1.2x1.2 metre tent you'd indeed need 6 or 7 of those overpriced lights.

HPS is proven technology and will do the job.
800-1000 watt or so for a 1.2x1.2 (16 square foot) tent

Return that platinum.

If you're on a tight budget buy an HPS.

If not, buy some Tasty LEDs.

It's probably a good veg light. But, anything will veg cannabis.

I just hate to see Platinum be rewarded for confusing the marketplace, selling counterfeit AdvancedLED lights. It takes a perverse mind to believe you can blatantly ripoff a reputable company's name and reputation -- and the market won't care.

Great advice :)

Did a bit searching and found this, do you think it will do the job in my tent?

This high quality kit contains everything you need to start a 1000w digital dimmable lighting system, including:
1000w Dimmable Digital Lumatek Ballast
Parazontal Reflector
1000w Dual Spectrum Sunmaster Bulb

If I were you I would see if there's an upgrade to get a hortilux superhps for flower and get a metal halide for veg. Use the metal halide until you flip to flower then switch to the hps.

Yes or get good cob light!!!
But if heat is not a concern go for hps...I ran some for more than a decade and now even if you give some to me I would say...no...never again...my box is so coooool now and my crop is over gpw in organic soil!

Hello again,

Think i found a better one as this is a Super HPS kit, think this one will do?:

And ive been looking for a 1000w Metal Halide bulb but the only ones i could find dont look like they will fit this fixure, will i have to get a separate light fitting for the Metal Halide bulb?

Why did you buy Name-Ripoff Platinum LED instead of HPS? Was it just sexy technology? Or, were you actually trying to solve a problem like electricity cost, heat management?

If you have some priorities toward the latter, you might consider CMH instead of HPS. You'll run 35-40w/sq ft instead of 50-60w/sq ft for HPS. Significantly less radiant heat.

I just wanted to make sure you know it's not an either/or choice between high-end LED or low-end HPS (or low-end LEDs). CMH is in the middle. A SunSystems LEC315 covers 3.5x3.5' at 35w/sq ft.

You could supplement around two edges. If you keep the Name-Ripoff Platinum, that could be used to supplement. (I believe the inexpensive, inefficient epi-whatever LEDs do well with supplementing full-spectrum light, which CMH is.). I supplement with household LED lightbulbs. (I even grow entirely under them.). You could supplement an edge with those. (They should cover @ 30w/sq ft. So, you'd supply enough to do 35w/sq ft from the LEC, and 30w/sq ft with the lightbulbs. If you used your Name-Ripoff Platinum, you'd want to use it at around 50w/sq ft. I.e., factor in it's contribution that way.).

You're talking about running an HPS at 62w/sq ft. You could do more efficient light without spending on high-end LED.

I'm not sure I would call a double ended hps low end. Still better then mogul hps and much better then fluros or cfls. They are still the standard in most grows now a days. And to the OP I'm not sure you'll find a DE mh bulb as I'm not sure they exist

Evening all,

"Was it just sexy technology?" Yep pretty much, got a habit of rushing into things :)

I ended up going for a "Maxibright Pro-Select 1000w DigiLight Supernova" kit

Hopefully be okay with my 1.2x1.2x2.0 meter tent? Dont want the thing burning my house down, I can dim the bulb down to 400w apparently

I also upgraded my fan to a 8" Rhino pro Carbon Filter fan, not sure if thats a bit too powerfull even on the lower setting, i'll rig it up properly and find out

I'm gonna keep hold of the LED i'm sure i'll use it somewhere along the way ;)

Cheers

Well 1000w in 4x4....yes you will need this kind of extractor with this heat factory!!!
I get mad with a 600hps in my 4*4...so with 1000w I hope you live in a cold area where electricity is cheap!
And to pull more than gpw in soil in a 4*4 with a 1000hps you will need a/c and a lots of fans...not with cob!
Good luck you gonna need it!

Thanks for the reply, but not to sure what you mean by gpw in soil and needing a/c (i have a power socket in the loft if thats what you mean), i can dim the light to 600w, would i still need lots of fans? And whats a cob?

Cheers

I meant gram per watt in organic soil...which is harder than gpw in hydro!
Cob is chip on board...I have some cree cxb3590 3500ºk 36V CD @ 1400mA (50w) X 4...and 8 more soon...I don't want to use this heat factory know as hps or mh anymore!
15years of good duty but now it is outdated and much less efficient and effective than cob!
Just watch Growmau5 (a member here) vids on youtube and you will regret you didn't build your own cxb3590 pannel!...just a few vids and you will change your mind and will understand a lot more about cob tech!
