Start of Week 4 Update.

I missed uploading the weekly update on Tuesday the 24th but remembered to take pictures before leaving town. Everything is looking good here. I'm also posting some pictures taken today right after. I'll make it easy to tell which ones are from Tuesday and which are from today.

So far so good, but still tripping out on the ken's kush. I have no idea how much to expect off them since they are so damn stretchy. Speaking of stretchy, holy shit the Smile :-) in the party cup skyrocketed over the past 4 days while I was away. Luckily the Pink OG party cup that's in the led competition stayed nice and stout for me. I'll update the weekly entry for that over in the official thread. Maybe around the middle of next week I'll start adding some MOAB to the kush and then hit the rest of the girls with it around the start of week 6. That's all for now. Thanks for sticking with me so far.

Wouldn't white LED's be a step backwards? For me, the ability to focus my wattage only into the needed spectrums was a huge appeal of LED and the reason for its efficiency. what pros would an all white LED light have over an HID, I think you would then have to match HID watt for watt.
For the most part white LED's are a step backwards, but they offer a few things to the LED only grower that most nm specific lights cannot. They can fill spectral gaps, white leds will "blend lights" by having low output of every spectrum. If you are growing with HID and supplementing with LED this is just dumb because you simply don't need the white, but, like many of us on the forum, most likely you are doing a pure LED run. Temperature, height requirements, wattage requirements are all good reasons, plus the white leds are way better at directing their light than your run of the mill CFL (which has an equally bad spectrum). I don't think that they are good to use purely due to the lack of red for flowering. It's just awesome that they are built from blue leds (which I hate, and are constantly pushed onto the growing community), so even if you buy a 3000k 50w LED array you are still getting a decent ratio of blue to ...orange. That's why pure whites aren't being used stand alone, they aren't yet as tempered towards peak flower power as the standard HPS is yet, but in time you wont see panels built with pure blues at all because the whites still output a ton of blue.
Sincerely,
ILovePlants
P.S. PICTURES!!! I keep smoking but I can't puffenuff! :)
I don't know if white leds are a step backward or not. I totally agree that one of the nicest things about leds are that you can select whichever spectrums you need for whatever kind of plant you are growing and even for whatever stage of growth you are in. To be clear, my panel is not all white leds, it is a combo of white and red at a 3:2 ratio. The way my light is described by apache is akin to a dual arc hid that covers the entire spectrum. What I liked was that I'm getting a spectrum closer to the sun's while still being more efficient that going full spectrum hid. We shall see though, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the r/g/b led grow light model, I've been happy with the ones I own and have owned, I just wanted to try something new. Don't think of it as a step backward, think of it as a step sideways.

I do agree that using some white LED's to fill in spectrum gaps is a good thing right now and probably necessary while we are still figuring out the exact wavelengths and in what ratios of those wavelengths are needed for growing. I say a all white LED panel is a step backwards because R&D should be telling us in more detail which specific wavelengths we should run and finding optimal ratios. This has been seen as LED's have used more and more wavelengths from tri band to 5,7 and 12 bands as we figure what is being wasted with HID and cutting those out to focus power into just beneficial wavelengths. white just seems like the easy way to say eh good enough, we will just fill in white for any unknown ratios now. I consider it to be a complete side grade to HID at a huge cost increase.

Not saying that panel is bad, its great. I just wish the LED companies would put a little more effort into better spectrum and ratios. All of your girls look really good and are very tall, do you have any penetration issues with the nugs further down?

Do you have a partition between the two sides? The deep red and blue colors would help the all white side of the apache right and the narrow beams of the apache would not help the other site right? Sorry if this has already been asked and I missed it.

Thanks mrecio, appreciate the compliment! I don't see any signs of penetration issues so far, but I'll be able to say that more definitively when they start to fill in more. So far looks promising under both lights.

Welcome to the show newguy, thanks for stopping in. I did not put a partition up in the middle because I already felt I had a sense of what each light could do after owning them for a few weeks and I figured there was more benefits in not having the light blockade up than to figure out that both lights would have rocked their respective halves. To your point about the light overlaps, I actually feel like the apache has a greater core coverage than the xml despite having narrower angles. That's just from turning one on at a time and comparing what they cover and how intense they appear, nothing scientific at all though. So back to the point about the red and blue benefiting the plants directly under the white, it definitely is working both ways.

Looking Sweet Puffdaddy. Is The Kens Kush A Clone??
THanks Mr. Dawg! Yes sir, everything in the garden is a clone but the two in the party cups.

Plants are coming along nicely, white seem to be working and plants love the new panel, they are starting to frost up really nicely to, cant wait for them to swell up.

Peace to all, stay safe and happy growing.

If I ever need someone to house sit while I'm away, I'll be sure to call you guys up (and booby trap my lights). Just don't burn the place down! Training is something I like doing with a long veg time. I did some LSTing last round on the hash passion and they really liked it but I think it messed with the true blueberries' yields in a negative way, but probably because I tried to start it too soon. So I'm a little iffy about doing any next round because I will have to be doing short or zero veg time from clones due to timing issues with the sour d this round, probably going to take +10 weeks. Maybe I'll just top them next round, something I haven't done yet under led. Thanks for the compliment.

Yeah, I'm really starting to like how these plants are developing, they really like both lights that's for sure. The strawberry cough smells amazing right now. Stay tuned the next few weeks, I expect them to blow up soon with a little help from high doses of phosphorus and potassium aka moab. Thanks for stopping in and commenting.

Thank you Rcb, and welcome, glad to have finally found another person with an apache! Right now I have the apache about 10 inches from the canopy because it's not covering a very large space so I'm trying to get it as close as I can before I start to see any bleaching. Are you doing 22 inches in veg or bloom? And how long have you had yours, any completed grows? Sorry for asking so many questions, this is my first grow with it and i really like it so far but haven't found anyone who has used one yet. Thanks for stopping in and reading the whole thing, and for the kind words, much appreciated. Stick around and feel free to join in on the conversations.

all good i felt the same when when I saw that you were using one :). In veg, going to flower this week, ive had for couple months,no completed grows yet. the reason for 22inches is I talked to a grower in Canada and he was using like 8+ of these and he told me 22inches was the sweet spot and so far my plants like it that far i havent noticed any stretching havng it that far but i also havent moved it any closer lol too scaryed to bleach. This is the growers garden I had talked tohttp://youtu.be/fSlVMC1Jvec

Start of Week 5 was yesterday. A ton of pics but not enough time to label each one. Hope you enjoy! M.O.A.B. will start to get added during the middle of this week for about 2 weeks before flush. Getting close now, and I'm very happy with how everything is looking.

Awesome video, thanks for sharing that! Maybe I'm running mine too close to the canopy right now? I just figured the closest I could get it the better? I was doing much higher in the 20inch range for veg and got some reallY nice bushy plants. Next round I will play with the height a bit more.

I think its best to have the light farther than closer, the spectrums blend together before hitting the plants and they love it. I think the only time you want the light closer is in a situation like yours where each plants have one main bud and many lower buds... or else the lower buds dont get enough light. Try to bend the shit out of them on your next run so that each plants has many tops and keep the light at a fair distance, you will be pleased!! again thats what I think....!! looking good in your garden none the less but it appears to me you could increase your yield a lot without changing lights /nutes .! Cheers!
