hi all

i have been growing with one light which is a 600w hps sunmaster bulb & dimpled reflector & 600 watt Maxibright EuroLux Ballast which i got of ebay for less than £80 nicker , my space is 8ft x 7ft & been using this one light to cover 10 plants ,i do ok with not bad results but feel like the room ? plants need that little bit more light & i could do that little bit better with yield ,i don't want to add another 600w bulb as im a bit scared of the extra power cost ? so i was thinking of just doing away with the 600w and installing 2 400w lights ? i know its going to be a little more power & cost ,but not as much as 2 600watts

what you think would this be a good move ?

Calculate your watts-per-square foot. Determining lumens is best but may be beyond your present means. 50 watts per square foot will grow most strains well. 2 400-watts are good for a 5' X 5' area really.

your room is 56 sq Feet, and your light produces around 90,000 Lumens, The sun produces 10,000 Lumens roughly per Square foot, so its best to shoot for near that, 6000 lumens per sf is the minimum i would do. either way with that being said. with 56sq ft you would need alot more light even 2x 1000 watts, would still only give you a lumen per sq ft of around 5000, my best advice yo you would be shirink your room a bit if at all possible to 4x4 with one 600w and one 400w (9000 lms per sqft) or one 1000w (9000 lms per sq ft) Provided you have very good ventilation or move to a 5x5 room and throw in 2x600w thats 7000 lumens per sqft and should do the job nicely. you do not need a big grow area to grow massive buds, you just must be able to control the elements better and emphasize good ventilation and circulation while maximizing your lights. god speed and party on

I recommend you add a 400W Philips Mastercolor CMH in there, there the best bulbs on the market (spectrum wise), check out Scottyballs "Pineapple Express G13 Lab's Seed to Harvest" thread and you'll see what I mean, he had always used HPS before but once he went to CMH he's never gone back.
