Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, or Xbox360 & Guitar Hero?

Well, I've decided

that I need to go to a guitar store. :-P

After doing some reading, MANY suggest that
I get to feel and hear the guitar I want to get...

and that makes a lot of sense instead of buying one
that looks like it will sound good on ebay....:-|

I also found that I better not go to wal-mart or target,

but a place called Guitar Center and talk to the
experts there.

And take a friend who plays guitar and let them
help me out.

So......

anyone who has suggestions on good brands
is welcome to post them here!!!

tah-tah!!!

can't really go wrong with a fender. though i'm an ibanez kinda guy. playing it first will help A LOT. they each have their own unique "feel". you'll know when you're holding the "right one".

Things to think about:
Different brands are going to have their own unique features. On electrics for example, a Gibson or a copy of one is generally going to have a slightly shorter (24 3/4") neck. A fender usually has a 25 1/2" neck. Nut width (not mine, the guitar's) is wider on a Gibson and narrower on a Fender. All other brands will be close to one of these two "standards".

If you are a tiny thing, you probably don't want to have a big-ass guitar that you have to reach around. You might look at a 00-sized acoustic instead of a jumbo.

Every major brand either has a "value brand" or an extended line that includes all price ranges. Some of the best deals are on Epiphones. The quality is good enough for a student, and I have had very good success at setting them up to play like their more expensive cousins. I'm not sure if it is still true, but a friend used to work at the Gibson factory in the late 90s and he said that the Epiphone DOT ES-335 was made on the same line as the Gibson ES-335. The only difference was in the electronics. A Epiphone ES-335 is around $400, a Gibson is over $3000.

You should also stay away from pointy guitars for now. Flying V's look cool, but they are pain in the ass to play sitting down.

Oh yeah, one more thing...Guitar Center has no experts. They are carbon based units that could not get a job at Wal-Mart. Believe nothing they tell you without checking it out first.

Man, I looked on the prices on a gibson and I was like....

*ahem*...dude!!!

yeah, thats what I was reading. I will know when its the right one.

I see some people with ibanez's on youtube...

they play really nicely.

thanks for the suggestion!

I went with Guitar Hero, but instead of the useless guitar, I bought the drums. Because on expert the drums are note for note like in the songs. So the game will teach me the drums, and has been doing well so far. =]

lol. yeah, this is what someone else said on
another site......about guitars for beginners...

"The most important things for you to consider when you buy the guitar are how it sounds (to you) and how it feels when you play it. Don't listen to any salespeople trying to sell you on the finer points between the finishes and materials. Go to a music store and have a salesperson play the same riff for you on a few instruments in the same price range. Close your eyes and listen to the sound. Which sounds better?"

Sounds like good advice to me!

:hump:

thanks so much guys! really, I do appreciate it.

i taught myself on a used ibanez GIO. they run 200 brand new. i got mine on craigslist for 165 i think. i didn't know any better. it was nice to learn on though. within 4 months i upgraded to my RG. :hump:

cool thing about nicer guitars is if you take care of them they hold their value. some even increase in. :hump:

Id say get an acoustic guitar at first. get better at guitar, get more cash, buy an electric and an amp, wait til u have more cash, then get whatever new guitar hero game is out.

Learning guitar is fun and being able to play is tight. especially high :hump:
