A little help....

can anyone tell me if I can use thermal paste like Arctic silver 5 to attach a cob to a heat sink, if so what do I use to keep the cob attached other than screw it down? I know it sounds a little ghetto but would a layer of AS#5 then JB Weld around the chip work? JB is good up to 150C at least and as far as I know isn't electrically conductive....

you can try thermal ADHESIVE, but they will be on pretty good.

SupraSpL has directions for using just kapton tape and thermal paste NOT thermal adhesive. Put a drop of thermal paste on your cob, hold cob against heatsink and apply pressure on the top of the cob for about 30 seconds to develop a vacuum and then apply the kapton to keep the cob from slipping around....

I use prolimatech pk2 as far as thermal paste, I recommend the PK3.
:peace:

As much as i love JB weld, I would stay far away from that, might even f' the diode up just from some of the fumes involved.
