A few questions from a novice grower

Hey guys, thanks for reading. Just a few basics:

- Eye Hortilux 700ES LED
- 4x4 Tent
- FFOF soil
- ACE Malawi

I have grown a bunch in the past but it has been a good 10-11 years. Memories get kinda hazy lol. Here is my predicament:

1. I am using 12"x12" square pots on a 3x3 tray. Will these be big enough?
2. I have 51" from the top of the pots to the maximum possible height of the light, should I allow for more room? I've grown exclusively with HIDs before and always left 18-24" but I've heard some LEDs can get much closer?
3. I am planning to sprout 4 seeds to give room to work, top them, then spread them out into a star and flip to flower. Malawi can be extremely vigorous and I expect to gain about 2 feet during stretch.

So I guess my main question is how close should I be able to get to the light? My current plans would have me about 12" away and I don't want to push it, but using a tray for runoff/ease of use just seems so beneficial

12-24 inches. I hang my SensorPush from my light on a 16 inch bit of twine so that it just sits in the canopy. Lift your light as the plant grows.

loads of grower content on YT if you’re looking for a refresher on growing. LST, supercropping, mainlining, scrog etc. Mr Canuck Grows, Mr Growit, Pigeons420, CLTV.

If you have a way to get more headroom, I would do it
As far as light distance I run open wing 600 hps at 15 inches but I don’t think you can get any closer with LED

Bud, buy a cheap quantum PAR meter. My little $150 unit is within 5 compared to my neighbor's super expensive Apogee. Best thing I've bought since switch to LED. I'll promise you'll use it. Regularly. IMG_20211105_085314.jpg

Cheap Chinese 640 watt LED. I do mean cheap. The meter was indispensable in rotating plants for the best coverage.

Thanks for all the kind messages and advice, it has been really helpful. Once I get going I'll try to post some pictures; still navigating the forums. Malawi is definitely a beast to grow lol but she gave me the best smoke of my life last time. Here's hoping for a repeat.
