A couple questions for people who like to flush

Yeah, I think I am aware of that. ;)

Exactly why you want to reduce nitrogen to make sure that you aren't giving too much in later flower. The fan leaves are just an indicator that you aren't overfeeding.

None of us give too much nitrogen in flowering though, your assumption forgets we grow dank weed with nitrogen till the end.

But from the old days to new we now seem to use more nitrogen in flower and less bloom boosters meaning an altogether more even npk ratio start to finish.

Some just complete grows using veg ferts or one shop bought fert with little care of nitrogen and still make tasty bud.

I dont disagree there is something to it but years of npks products and grows tell a much different story :-)

It's true that you can't flush nutrients from the plant- however you can prevent the plant from taking up additional nutrients by flushing the medium. If you add no further nutrients the plant uses whatever it has stored, ridding the "excess" nutrients.
In essence, isn't this flushing the plant? Perhaps the nomenclature is off, but the end result it acheived.
This doesn't work either...

By stopping nutrient use. Yes the plants stops taking up nutrients but, the plant now feeds off it's self in a last ditch effort to reproduce. In doing so, the plant takes those nutrients and sends them directly to the places "your" trying to remove them from! Technical fail....

It's the excess chlorophyll that can cause harsh taste? My mistake, I thought it was the nitrogen.
You solve that problem in early drying and the rest of the problems in the curing that follows!

Proper dry and cure!!

We smoke a green product its just with less chlorophyl other flavours can come through more.

:-)
Over simplification but, correct - SEE ABOVE!

the longer you let it go the more sedative it will be, period.
Longer more sedative? PERIOD? Not always. Only when tric's increase in advanced ambering......There are stains that amber little to almost none....You can run these till they fall over dead. They will be NO MORE sedative then the day they were actually ready to harvest...

By not running long enough. You miss the true depth of the buzz the plant brings. Each strain is different.... By chopping at any point before all cloudy.....Your missing shit loads! By seeing what many think is the ambering of trich's - And not allowing the plant to fully mature (swollen calyx's and receded pistils),,, Your not ever going to experience the real potential of the strain. Buzz wise.

PERIOD!

Well over 40 years of growing. Say so...

Do you reduce it enough to see yellowing?
Yes, that tells you the plant is using the mobile nutrient nitrogen from it's older fan leaves to build bud. The last few weeks you wanna see the fans yellow from the bottom up, that lets you know there is no excess nitrogen.

NOOO! I get so frustrated with this! Green to the end! Only a few strains I have run will actually have a natural "yellowing" (Some are simply a low tolerance to P)....A "green" plant (at the end) is NOT full of "excess nitrogen"!!
Where does this shit come from???

For many strains, that yellowing from the bottom up is simply too much P being used and it's mostly to early too!

Reductions of N are small and done at a cpl times during bloom. NEVER at the start f bloom either!
This also depends on how well you applied the N in veg...

The real idea is to not have dark green leaves and once you've gone to shiny, waxy looking leaves. You have now reduced the THC production...

Some strains like less N period and some more.....YOU have to dial the strain in..

You should be green to the end and have little lower yellowing......

The true organic water only grower knows that his soil should be lowering in N availability near the end....Why do people think that synthetic grows need to yellow?

It's the dry and cure.....

Hope nobody is offended at my candor in the last 2 posts......Bitchy day...

I don't flush and I'll harvest plants with healthy green leaves. Bud tastes great. Leaves don't have to turn yellow.
Correct!!

Great flavor comes from happy plants well cured. No flushing needed.

And super correct! Nice job covering all the bases I've been avoiding typing all day :).

We have some winning answers in this thread today folks!! Lets poke all the new growers and get them to read along.

Ah good point. I've never grown one of those strains. what i've always read is THC is highest in cloudy trichomes and CBD CBN is highest in amber trichs. Every strain i've ever grown has gone through the same progression clear, cloudy, amber.

Not sure if the 2nd part was directed at me but i didn't mean to advise anyone chop early. And i never said sedative is a bad thing.

No man, your cool! I just took a point and expanded on it... The bulk of the strains I run...Don't amber much at all. Some part to the way I grow but, strain potential is what I grow for..
I have a few old schooler's yet. They do amber, but you have to know what is ambering.. The part you keep or the part you trim away.

When in bloom should n be dropped, in say a 9 week strain

i give my plants water only for the last week because it saves nutrients and uses the last nutrients stored in the root zone and fan leaves.
Sorry but that is not true, just a myth. That is based on THC degrading and turning into CBN which has been proven to be so minute that it does not change the buzz type.

Interesting I haven’t seen that yet.

Can you drop a link to the proof? Sources?
