A/C brainstorming, lend your thoughts

Hey guys, so im currently trying to decide bewteen a window unit or portal a/c unit, let me start by saying this isnt necessarily for a grow.. i do have a tent in the room but that is not even the primary reason im doing this, id just like to sleep without sweating this summer.

So heres the deal, the room is a garage thats been converted into a bedroom, there is a vent from the houses central a/c coming into the room, however the people living in the main space of the house prefer to keep windows open and not run the a/c as long as outdoor temps are below 80 (and that means right up to 80, even @79 they will not turn ac on), this hasnt been an issue during the cooler months but now its starting to heat up and this is a problem for me because i prefer my ambient temp to be about 70, both for the plants sake and my own.

The only windows available are windows that go into the rest of the home- not to the outdoors, one of the windows connects to the dining/living room so thats out of the question, but the other window goes into the laundry room, so thats the window that will get used, i can either put a window unit in the bedroom window or i can run a portable a/c plumbed to exhaust out that window, the laundry room has another window that does go outside and has an electric fan in that window that exhausts it constantly so im not worried about heat building up in there, i guess my biggest concern with a window unis is the condensate line, id probly just have to put a bucket under it to catch the condensate since theres no where easily accessible to plumb it out, and i would prefer the window unit as it wont take up valuable floor space and they are far more efficient that portable units as well as cheaper too.

anyone ever done this, any suggestions? before someone else says it i would love to go with a mini-split unit but im just trying to cool a 14x14 room so im not looking for a 20k btu unit or to spend more than a couple hundred bucks, at the absolute max i only need a 8k btu unit but could get away with a 6k even

They make portables that will vent the moisture out with the hot air off the condenser coil. I have one in my living room. It's a dual hose edgestar 14,000 btu/hr.

You might consider just extending the hot air hose through the laundry room to the outside window using some galvanized snap seam duct.

i went with a 6000btu GE window unit, fit perfectly in the 23x13 window opening i have, laundry room is a bit warm now but fuck it better it be warm in there than where im trying to sleep

also- very little condensate, got about 1cup worth after the initial 2 hour running period to cool the room off, now that its cool its only kicked back on twice and not even enough condensate to get anything to drain when i pull the plug so i think itll all work out, should run too often, only keeping it a few degrees cooler in here than the rest of the house. and the walls are brick so the cold retains pretty well

When the humidity goes up you will get a lot more condensation and a 6000 btu is pretty small if you are growing at all but should keep things under control especially if the house HVAC is helping to cool on the hot days.

the room in total is 190sq ft, 6k btu is plenty. hottetest recorded canopy temp in my tent has been 81 so its fine, this is just to suppliment some extra cold air when my house-mates decide to go windows open.

The laundry room has a window to the outside with a fan in it. Window unit should be fine.
its working like a charm, room stays between 70-72 even when rest of the house is 75 and what ive done is the 2 windows in the laundry room are 90 degree angles from one another so theres the one with the window unit in it thats obviously putting out hot air from the back, and i have a fan next to that blowing in the direction of the other window which has an addition fan in it to complete the exhaust process, it might be a little warmer than normal in there but hey its a laundry room im not hanging out in there, maybe ill just stop exhausting it at all and start hanging my clothes to dry in there instead of running the dryer, probly make up the cost of runnign the a/c in no time lmao

Ive been hang drying most my clothes most of my life. They last a lot longer. Just gotta have a few inches of space between each item of clothing.

People cut a hole in the wall to the outside then seal it in there, i prefer a wall ac myself too.

had i planned this back in September of last year when i did the remodel on the garage i would have cut a hole for it then, however at the time the central A/C was doing fine to keep it cool so wasnt on my list, most of the year the central a/c is enough, just need this for the summer months so not worried about putting it in the wall.
