96 tops in a 5x5?

Hey ya'll,

Been reading around the forums about mainlining and stumbled upon a few threads talking about tops per sq ft , all suggested numbers were much lower then what I was planning on doing for my current run which has me slightly concerned now.

Would 96 tops in a 5x5 be too crowded? Would mold/mildew/fungus become a major problem?

What are your thoughts on this?

So I just finished my grow in 4x4 scrog under 1000w hps. I had lst, mainlined, over topped, ect to keep plants 16” tall at start of flower and as many tops as possible (144 holes in scrog should fill as many as I could right?). Well I ended up 102 tops. No mold or anything like that. Ended up with 31.5oz.
Only thing I can say about it was the individual buds didn’t grow as large as expected based on what others who did less lst and training with clones from same plants. But it was just as good quality wise(actually a little more triched up and a little better smoke wise) And the amount of tops made up for the smaller size of buds.
And make sure you have a good fan set up all around. Because the issue I started with was the plants at back of scrog didn’t get much air since it was blocked by all the front bud spots and ended up a little weaker. I had to tie almost every bud across the back half around week 5-6 as they started trying to lean and fall over.

Dude first of all that sounds dope. How many plants did you have? Got any pictures of the results?

Topping for large #s of bud sites definitely reduces the size of the buds, but honestly I like that. Massive buds are at a greater risk of bud rot, plus, more buds spreads the risk around, and I think the sheer surface area of a greater # of smaller buds increases the overall THC content of the entire grow, if such a thing could be measured.

There was 4 plants in that scrog, I do have a picture I’ll just have to find it. I felt stupid af. Was first grow so I didn’t lollipop or defoliate properly. So I was sweating mold the whole time. Checking constantly.
