810 w too much for a 2x4 closet/tent grow?

Check the specs of you light. It wont be 1000w draw. Any other stated wattage is just a marketing lie.

If you were actually using 1000 real watts it would be a serious waste of electricity since over a certain point adding more light doesn't increase yield.

I'm gona guess based on experience that your light is 230w actual draw.
From what I can find, even most of the nicer ones advertised as 1000w are 500ish tops.

That's the first sign you can't trust them.
All they do is take the diode wattage and add them up and call it a "1000w" grow light. Its not a good starting point for a sales pitch ey!
You wont find any of the retailers on here doing that. Its just bad business.

But that said, cheap lights grow weed,, people just need to be aware or false advertising and the possibility that cheaper products have a greater return rate.

For a 2x4 tent look no farther than one of these:

https://growerslights.com/collections/horticulture-lighting-group-quantum-board-led-kits/products/horticulture-lighting-group-260-watt-xl-quantum-board-led-kit

Otherwise, if you really want to use those cheap ones 3 of them would probably not be too bad. But that one 260W quantum would be better.
Yeah, I got a total of 4 of these now for $100. Figure at that price, I'll try out a grow to completion and build my confidence before investing in better lights. I was looking at the 320w version of that. I can't decide whether I wanna do a COB build, or just buy some quantum panels. A little more homework to do on my part.

Nope! Just putting things together. I have some feminized autoflower seeds on the way from a seedbank. Can't start til they arrive and I get them popped. Also waiting on two or three more small things to arrive in the mail today and tomorrow.

I agree. Some of them are advertised as '600w cfh equivalent', and I don't mind that, as long as they also give actual wattage draw and the other info necessary to make a reasonably informed decision.

I'm sure these aren't exceptional quality, but there's a video up from a reasonably experienced grower saying that these should still do the trick. At the price I paid, if I yield 4 zips total, the whole setup has more than paid for itself. The better I do, the easier it'll be to want to upgrade my lights after the first grow.
