I killed three lil budworms on one cola. The colas hairs seem more brown? Should I chop it down? I'm 8 weeks in going on 9 I've never dealt with budworms before, the bud site looks like they suck the oil off.

Check all your buds everyday. Look for any brown, dead, or dieing sugar leaves and start digging out the damage looking for the worm and cleaning the worm shit off. If you have an infestation you might think about chopping now but if there isn't too much damage being done let it go. But if you do you must be deligent about picking off the worms- at least twice a day. You are too late, in my opinion, to spray anything on your flowers. Good luck, I hate those budworms with a passion.

i get bud worm after it rains - i pick them off when I see them, but they get into the middle of the bud (towards the tems) and cause bud rot.

I pick them out while trimming. This year harvested one week early because the bud rot was evident.

Nature is gonna take her cut off your grow. Growing one plant is a lot harder than a dozen or more when the stress comes.

This year in location 1, I started with 23 plants in early July. By late August I was down to ten, and right now there are four very healthy plants flowering. Location 2, I had only 6 plants started, all six are fine and happy. location 3 is a cluster of plants in a large depression. That one I had to snip stems and wait 4 days before I went back to prune out what I don`t like. Location 4 I wont visit till late November,. I want those to seed.

You see where I`m going with that ? Nature took from me, but is now giving back to me. I wont go gray with stress because I know if you play nature`s game, she lets you win. Some bunnies are happy, some deer got a taste, the bugs and fungi got their share, and now I await mine.

Growing one or two plants for personal use SUCKS on a stress level because time is your enemy, before it becomes your friend in the fall.

And yes,...I checked the zoning permits this year. There are no big yellow construction machines coming to any of my grow areas this year. Last year just Sucked.

Typically one harvests in the morning. I don't think that it makes a large difference but others may differ.

Just FYI, next year think about getting some BT safer spray and do a once/week spray once you are about 3 - 4 weeks into flowering. Caterpillars are ususally only interested in flowers that are fairly developed...and they seem to have an unfailing sense of direction and go directly for the prime buds.

I like to chop in the afternoon after the sun has burned off all the morning dew. But a lot of factors with logistics and stealth come into play when harvesting and every situation is different.

So i got a lot of caterpillar last year without bt, this year i was ready spray the shit at the beginning of flowering and during the first month..i still got some worms, so i don't know about bt anymore..
On the chopping time i like to wake up really early, wait for the sun to rise and right before it touch my buds i chop them..i also like to look at the moon cycle and try to pick them around the third quarter (mooning phase)

BT didn't work very well for me either.. I sprayed once a week with it and still got a ton of worms... I switched to a product called Monterey Garden Insect Spray. It contains Spinosad. It worked a lot better.

How does the plant get worms? I see flys around my flowering crops in the morning is that why? Just an update, I ended up taking down 5 colas the others look ok for now. I found 4 worms while clipping the colas down. They are hard to spot cuz there in the inside of the buds.

Moths and butterfly's lay eggs on the growing buds. Sometimes the buds grow around the eggs then they hatch- not much you can really do about that. If you spray with spinosad or BT when the hatched worms eat any part of the sprayed bud it will soon die. If the worm eats sprayed plant it will still do some damage before it dies. They are some nasty insects. Ill take thrips, mites, gnats, or any other insects but those budworms are my worst enemy. Good luck. They caught me off guard this season also, luckily I was able to spray a little before it got too late into flowering and the damage wasn't that bad. I've also noticed that they are more attracted to certain plants. I had a couple Girl Scout Cookies and a couple Sleeslack x Skunk #1 that they didn't touch at all.

I'd never used BT until this year, and it's not very effective. Went back to Spinosad and it does the trick.

I just caught a couple moths laying eggs tonight on my buds. I picked a couple eggs off, but I need to go back and look at every cola to be safe. Bastards...go eat something else.:weed:
