so started my second grow and thought i would try and do a mixture of bubble and hydroponics ( when i can afford a pump lol ) my box is bought from the powned shop for £3.99 bottom sprayed with paint so to reduce light to the roots ( in hinesight i would have covered in relective sheeting eh) peace of 7mm mdf wood with 8.7cm holes for my pots these will then have clay balls placed inside when clones are fully ready the pump and the air stones all came to about £3o

The box

does any one know if that will be enough space for all the roots to grow remembering i only got a small amout of hight but i dont want them to sufercate each other eh

question? do you think there is enough bubbles to cover the area and can i continue growing without a pump for the time being ??

Well, first off, wood may work ok for your box, but mdf and water don't work. You'll have trouble with that soon.

And you're gonna need a pump. After all, it's hydroponics. :blsmoke:

thanks for the advice potroast the pump is a comming as soon as i start my new job and got my first wage packet but what type of pump would you surgest for this system??the woold has been covered by reflective sheeting both top and bottom so fingers crossed it will be ok for this grow then i can develop the system better will the bubbles be sufficient for the time being and do you think the depth of the box is ok so the roots wont strangle each other, i can always get the next box up with more depth if needs be.

dump that mdf and get a piece of plastic 1/4" and if its clear paint it black and on the black painted side put your relective sheeting. That way the clear plastic is down facing the water.Peace

For like 10-20 bucks you could buy a rubbermaid storage tote and just cuts holes in the lid, with a utility knife, it will give your roots more space to hang. Drill holes for the air pump if you have too. I would actually buy two, it helps if you need to refill or clean one.

You can do a drip or something with a mister in it.
Aeroponic V-Shape Mister

I'm planning on using mine with the drip for seedlings but once those roots hit the water I'm gonna pull the water pump out of the drip system and use it in the mister system. Once your roots hit the water you really don't need to drip anymore. If you need more info just PM me, SmokerE is pretty good with this stuff too.

As for pumps you want a water pump, the kind they use in aquariums or water gardens, and some air pumps and airstones, and some sort of manifold to distribute the water
SH Hydroponics > Water & Air Pumps
SH Hydroponics > Netafim Six Outlet Irrigation Manifold

You can find this stuff cheaper if you go to a Wal Mart or local fish/pet store. Yeah your MDF is gonna cause problems.
