75w Hps Or 150w Hps??

Figuring out how many plants you can grow is not done by 'plants per light' so to speak, rather, you go by how big of an area your lighting can properly cover then decide how many plants you want to put in an area that size, i.e., more plants smaller or less plants bigger. (When your lighting can handle bigger plants that is, otherwise a big plant is pointless.)

A 400 watt can cover up to a 4 x 4 area although 3 x 3 would be more in line with optimum. A 150 watt covers almost nothing properly, perhaps a 1 x 1 foot space so you can imagine how many plants fit in a 1 x 1 space: 1. The 75 watt is near useless. You would need to start flowering at a very short height to ensure your light can handle the tripling in size your plant will certainly do in bloom - if not more with that light. The small plant size combined with poor lighting equals a pathetic yield, or in other words, a lot of work for very little. Incidentally, the same holds true for the 150. It cannot properly bloom a very tall plant, even 2 feet is pushing it, although the topmost part of the plant will at least give you something to smoke. For a finished height of 2 feet you need to start bloom before the plant(s) get to about 6 inches. (I strongly suspect your plants are going to more than triple though with such weak lighting, so keep it in mind when deciding when to flower.)

To optimize your lighting you should build a box of some sort and paint the insides flat white. (I would suggest mylar or another material but I am guessing cash may be an issue.) This will at least help the light you do have from 'escaping.'

If there is any way possible, you would do much better outdoors. I certainly wouldn't want to go through all that work for the little yield you can expect, but it appears people do it ... I guess you have to go with what you have, still, not for me thanks. :-)
damn.. i thought 150 was good for flowering.. :(.. i just bought 2 150 hps lamps..

I think the guy who started this thread wanted to keep things small. Most of us who grow with CFL and low watt HPS are trying to be stealth. I agree that more light is better, but if you put a 400watt HPS in my cabinet you might as well bake cookies in it. My 150watt HPS with 92 watts of T5 side lighting gives me all I need for personal use and some for my friends. All contained in a space the size of a dresser. If you want to use 150watt HPS then go for it, but don't expect a shitload of bud. I got 1/2 ounce on my first try. I bet you can get alot more with 2 150watt HPS if you know what you are doing.

they need to come out with a 150w m/h conversion bulb........that would be the best thing to happen to stealth grow...imo

you can veg fine with hps
I'm checking you stuff right now. 150watt Hps just fit into my financial equation. It was either hps, or trying to fit/setup 14 cfls. I would like to add some lighting to this when I have a spare $20-$80. Even If I only get an Oooz offa' this. It'll be worth it. Besides all the nutes and medium are coming off the main grow. So who cares.

I have a 150 watter (on a hanger) for my 22 gallon rubbermaid "grow box". The usable interior is basically 1.5 sq ft. I will be using it to flower 16-20 SOG clones in double hempy cups/buckets. Depends upon the cups I can choose/afford when it's time.

how are you going to fid 20 clones in 1.5sq ft.??

Clones between 3"-5" require 4" of space. The official grow area is 19.5" x 17". Cup diameter can be around 3" or 4". All my strains are indicas

Yeah I know about that. The only thing is. I'd rather get some single fixture pl (BIAX, HOT5) type lights in there, instead of more hps. Remember. I'm using 2 22gallon rubbermaids.

why doesnt anyone mention the sun wave 4ft 8 bulb t5....I get 5k output per bulb and 40k lumens...I love it for veg...but I gotta tell you my 400 hps is going over them when flower time comes....even though i have seen awesome buds from switching out the veg bulbs in the t5 to flower 3k red output bulbs:-)

I think that T5s are great. Plus, they're coming out with more efficient and higher wattage types. I also have a 400watt hps for flowering.
The reason I have the mini with a 150 is because I ran out of disposable $$. I also want to flower on the opposite 12 of the 12/12. I within a year or so, we'll be seeing alot more from High Output T5s.
