72 hour darkness at the end of flushing?

I have just started to flush my big buddah cheese plant after 10 weeks of flowering, i am doing a ten day flush. I was talking to a friend yesterday who was tryin to tell me about this 72hour darkness at the end of flush with then a 24 hour light on the very last day to shock the plant completely...?
can anyone clear this method up propley for me please :leaf:
 
dont think you'll need to flush for 10 days if thats what you mean, i think that would kill a plant. i used to flush when i used chemical nutes, i just gave them a good flush with just blackstrap molasses and rainwater, you can do it twice if she dries up. you can put a plant into 72 hours of darkness, you should lower temps as well if you want her to put out resin, maybe turn a little bit purple too. the idea behind leaving them in dark is to cause them to stress a bit and give their last bit of energy.
 
24hr 36 hr seems the average. i wouldnt want to not look at my babies if i am stressing the crap out of em for 3 days!!! would you? i probs skip the 24hrs light because, well you dont get that in real life outdoors.

your friend does not understand why an extended dark period is given in flowering. thc is destroyed by light, thats a large reason its there, to shield it from harmful uv rays. so during the light period your plants thc level goes down as its destroyed by light. during darkness their is no light to break down the thc so your plant should be able to reach its maximum level. 72 hrs was shown to increase some strains by 30% in one study.

One of their discoveries has been that to keep the ripe plants in the dark before harvesting could increase their potency.SIMM’s growers separated a crop of mature plants, harvested half of them and kept the other half in absolute darkness for 72 hours before cutting and drying. Analysis of the resulting dried buds showed that some varieties had seen an increase of THC of up to 30%, while CBD and CBN remained the same."
 
I've done 24 hours, 48 and 72 and found no ill effects with any of those darkness times. I try to water the day before I go into dark and I've never seen issues.

ive had people telling me its bullshit for years, while none of them tried it. it does some wonders, especially if done with cold temps around 65 degrees. weight seemed to be a bit more significant as well, ive always thought it increased trich development, but thats jmo.
 
you probably couldn't tell if it works or not, the difference would be so slight, i do it because I run a perpetual and it frees up space while I harvest, i can already have new plants in the place of the ones in the dark waiting to be harvested.
 
Nice Thread. Good info def cleared up some stuff for me. 72hrs Dark Then Harvest. Could Raise THC prodution by 30%. Thats wat i like to hear.lol
