Did i really day a 1000de is ok in a tent. Oops maby if its a gorilla and extends a couple feet higher. Ya dont want a 1000de closer than 3 feet. That makes some short plants. The 630 de is fine thats what i use in a 4.5x4.5
While I don't have experience with HID, I'm under the impression that this fixture (below) would make a 1000de work just fine in a standard tent.

I don't know what the deal is but I read everyone saying how great they are but I've never seen any grow journal/video that actually shows anything impressive. I like the idea and I'm sure they're great but put up against HPS in pics and vids I don't see it...other than maybe monthly savings in electricity and bulbs.
Your definition of impressive is prolly different then mine and others, after building one for my 2x2 testing tent , i'm currently saving up to retrofit the rest of my main rooms . you just have to see one in person , see how a strain you have grown before under a cfl or hps reacts to the led's, way more flavor and color, quicker flowering times, better juice bills . it just needs to be seen :) BB

my banana og has lost 7 days of flowering time between hps and my Vero 29's. My gumboldt is the most bubblegummy it's ever been , Your mileage may vary, haaaahahahahahahaerrrrrrrrrdouche LOL
i dont know abought shortening flower times but a fuller specrtium is associated with better flower quality, one of the reasons i went de cmh. cob is very full specrtium.

It may honestly be cause they are in an ebb and flow and not soil , I really don't know for sure :) but way better density and smell...

I am running it on a 1000 w generic digital dimmable ballast with great results it may not last as long but I cant see where investing 500 in a ballast if this lasts through two grows or maybe three Im running it 20/4 most of the time with the 4200 I do want to get one of the 3100 but looking at the spectrums comparison I just had to choose the 4200 as it was just better the only advantage to spoectrum of 3100 was far red which Im not sure is something we care about the 4200 is killing it so far

screw the squaare wave ballast they are completely over charging us right now as the industry is booming with all the states going legal gavita is still king but cmh is coming and spectrum is unrivaled Ive posted pics I choose to try it because I saw it in that advertisement magazine tho the bulb was very expensive I really wanted to try CMH it said words with current de digital ballasts and I have a few of thos and a couple hoods one sun system de/ac got for 250 but for 59 I got a vivosun generic open commercial reflecter and that is what I am using in 4x4 tent so for just 150 for the bulb no other costs for lighting I am blowing my tent up square wave im sure is great im trying to get one for reasonable price just found a 315 for a 100 bucks but I still would need new hood and 315 bulb so I think Im going too stick with just getting the de cmh and using my digital high frequewncy ballasts I will post when the light needs replacing its been two months going strong at 20/4
How did the bulb life work out? Been contemplating getting a couple 630 DE bulbs for my nanolux de fixtures. They even dim to 630 I believe so if it worked out alright I might do it. Any insight would be awesome

Yes the gc 630 de cmh. Ran it on a galaxy dimmed to 600. Lasted the cycle but when i put it back in it never fired. Rusults will vary lol. When you have the funds though i would suggest the matching ballast. Not only will the lam0 last longer but it will put out much more umoles and come close to the output of a 1000de. The lamp on a high frequency ballast will give you better light quality in terms of spectrium but you dont get the effecency in light production without the low frequency square wave ballast
