My plants are 2 weeks old today and have been LSTed once and let grow up into a SOG/LST combo. I LST my plants from about the time they are 4-5 inches tall and then once a week (or shorter depending how fast they grow) to keep the canopy as low as possible. My last grow, despite an issue with cold temperature right at the end of flowering, was 5 plants and nearly 100 tops that yielded about 1.5oz each. Definitely would have gotton more had I been here to control the temperature swing. The nugs were all main colas also which was pretty nice. If youre thinking about doing LST, there are a TON of different methods and everyone has one they claim is the best. Personally I dont think it matters so much as to how you LST but rather that you do it properly. What youre trying to do is essentially the same as topping where you are redustributing the auxins from one growth shoot to several but without stressing your plants from cutting them. When I LST the first thing I do is tie a counter anchor around the main stem pulling the plant in the opposite direction you plan on LSTing to prevent your plants from pulling themselves out of the ground trying to correct the training (dont tie the anchor taught against the stem as it will eventually choke your plant as the stem gets larger). After I do this I have flexible stainless steel wire (you can use clothes hanges cut up as a substitute) that I fashon into a 9 inch strip or so with a small hook on the top of it. I use this hood to grab the main stem about an inch or two below the apicol tip and bend it far enough down to be below any other secondary growth spots. I usually bend the plant almost to the ground to allow the auxims, which regulates what growth tips become apicol, to fully relocate into the rest of the plant. After the initial LST you just wait until the secondary growths become 2-3 inches and then tie them down also until you have a very short, dense bush with several apicol colas (ive gotton 20+ per plant but ive seen people get up to 30/40). This method will allow you to maximize your light, space and control over the plants, which is essential for growing good weed. Also, because this is your first time growing keeping your plants short and stocky will definitely help you keep on top of any issues that might sprout up and go unnoticed if you had a 4-5 foot tree (nugs need to be tied up, finding any signs of mold or insects, ect). The one thing I will suggest if you do decide to LST is that you only grow LSTed plants. If you let one plant grow straight up it will push the light farther away from the LSTed plant and any benefits of having an even canopy goes to waste. Hope this helps somewhat, let me know if you have any questions!
That was kind of what I was planning to do but I would be raising the pots of the LST'd plants to keep the even canopy.

Now that I think about it, might aswell LST them all.
This afternoon They succesfully came out of the earth all 6 of them (100% success up till now :p) I hope it keeps up.

By the way, the first set of leaves have just started to appear and Ive put them under the hps light because I'm worried they dont get enought light from my single 23W CFL.

I that a good idea?
The 600W HPS is about 2.5 feet up and I'm monitoring the temp closely.

I would recommend just LSTing them all, makes for a much easier grow. Congrats on sprouting all 6! I would think the HPS would be alright as long as its nice and far from the seedlings, they're super finicky at that stage so you want to keep their temperatures constant and the light intensity not too high. I would even raise it another 6 inches to be safe, although 2.5 should be fine until they start growing a little more. Got any pics of the new seedlings?

Yep hehe I've just raised the light a bit and the temp seems to have stabilized at 81.5ºF I'll make sure they keep nice and moist until some good leaves come out and then transfer them to a pot with soil in.

Looks great! Id bring the temp down to 78 if you can, that way you have some room if the temp spikes on you.

I'll be installing the ventilation system tonight so it should bring it down a bit more or at least give me more control.

How often and how long do you leave your fans on?

I've got and extractor fan, an smaller intake fan a a normal room fan to move the air around but I still dont really know how much I have to turn them on ??

any help is welcome ;)
cheers.

Things are looking grand over your end mate. Interested to see how this SOG style works out compared to your LST cheese grow.

I have a desk fan which stays on 24 hours a day to circulate the air inside the tent and I run my inline fan when the lights are on. It sounds like youve got plenty of fans so I would recommend leaving the smaller one to circulate the air and just have the others come on with the lights. Air circulation is critical in preventing mildews and fungus from being able to settle on your girls.

Thanks wowgrow! Im interested to see what happens also, the canopy is about the same but there are twice as many plants in there so im hoping for some monster nugs! The girls are already starting to stretch out, even with the LST I did during the start of the grow they're already 3 inches taller!

Well I still dont have my camera's charger so ill be using my phone until I can find it. The SOG is on day 6 of flowering and the four in 7 gallon smart pots are in week 3 of veg. Both are looking very lush and healthy, with bright green leaves and lavender stems. I cant wait to see these girls fill out later in flowering, from the looks of things they should have some really nice coloration. The girls in flowering are starting to show pistils so in a few weeks I should be able to see the colas start to develope! The first set of pics is of my girls in flowering (first pic is of day 1 flowering to compare) and the second set is of the four in veg.

Thanks a lot man I'm really excited for these buds, blueberry and GDP are a few of my favorite strains so a combo should be delicious! You got anything going right now?

Cheers man.

It has literally burned at every nute I've tried it with, starting at 1/4 strength! It's really leafy, hasn't even started swelling yet and we're nearly at week 10! The lemon on the other hand, she is a beaut.

Im harvesting my second SLH later this week (week 10). The first one was harvested at the END of the tenth week and had a number of orange trichs. Very potent weed, and a fun smoke. The smell of the fresh trichs carries on into the smoke, so it´s like exhaling lemon candy :D
