Been doing this for a while now no problems but I always think about the fact that if a ballast fails its definitely not going to trip the 40 amp breaker the timer is on. What do you guys think? I have a Hard wired/battery smoke detector right above the timer/ballasts and someone is ALMOST always home... I'm thinking about the titan helios 7 light controller. My electrician thought the setup was fine. I've been running it for several years now, whats your opinion on it. Intermatic timer wired with romex 10/3 on a 40amp double pole breaker running 6x1k watt HPS lights. Its worked for years im just worried 1 day somethings going to shit out and the breaker wont trip and it will cause a fire.

Everything is fine except your wire is ever so slightly under rated. 10ga wire after the 80% de-rating is 2880 watts (each pole) and you're probably running around 3100-3200 watts on each pole.
I know its borderline but im not going to go over the 6 lights on it so its 4.3amp x 6, so about 26 amps on the 10/3. It doesn't even get warm to the touch. I'm using iPower ballasts so they probably arent using as much juice as the top end stuff is either.
