5-6kw diesel generator + red diesel

Hi growers i need your help.

Im in need for a 5-6kw Diesel Generator. Have found a few that will do the job however the diesel prices are not too good. I can get my hands on a lot of red diesel for 2Litres at a £1. At a daily of cost at £8 / Weekly at £56 / 4-Weekly at £224 (close estimates)

My questions are, Is it safe to run a diesel generator on red diesel?
Can you run it inside the house or does it need to be outside?
Fumes - Can i have some sort of exhaust for the fumes to be tailed out the window/door/hole etc if run inside?

I have never used a diesel generator before and have no experience with them.

Reason for a diesel generator - Using board electricity will be expensive and will definitely raise some eyebrows on the other side.

Thank you in advance.

It'll run on red. Don't run it indoors unless you really know what you're doing - can easily kill a family this way.

U can definetly exhaust out a window but still wouldn't recommend running it indoors. Keep in mind these fuckers are loud!

Don't run it indoors mate. Even if you put the exhaust properly out of the house there will still be many fumes inside. The noise of diesel generators is huge comparing to gasoline ones, something you have to take into account as well. My dad's living off the grid so we do have some experience with them. I'd take my chances with board electricity (well, I do take my chances with board electricity :) )

Seen a set up where the guy dug a hole inside his house (1m x1m x1m)... hang it off bungee's inside the hole with some thick steel plate on top and insulate the bottom and sides... exaust fumes out your chimney... an easy access fuel line to it and wire it up so you can control from somewhere else in the house and run it during the day so peeps cant hear that very low hum...

A lot of work tho...

Thanks for the input team. The noise is definitely a issue on my mind however i thought of putting it in some sort of box with sound proofing and putting it into a garden shed with maybe some more sound proofing. Would this be reasonable?

I would love to just use the electricity board however working out around £450-£500 bill of pure electricity a month from about £80 a month will surely be a conversation on the other side?

The generator is to be used for lighting only. The rest was to be run through the normal electricity supply to show a 'normal' amount of usage at the property. I have heard about bypassing the meter but that is something i believe is very risky and to find someone capable of doing it safely is hard with also a good chance of the board knocking on my door.

I like that idea splifchris but i don't have a chimney. Saying that i guess i could have it out the window. That is a lot of work indeed which could pay off however with my lack of skill with fumes i can imagine killing myself in the house so i might leave the indoor idea as i could do with a few more years of my life :)

Am i going around the wrong way on this? How are the big growers (100+ plants) here working on there electricity?
