4x8

I have used hps since I started I bought some mars hydro lights (don't remind me how bad of a light they are) to try out leds. It grow buds but nothing like my hps 1k. Now that I started looking at this site I seen leds work great just not the ones i had.

So now I'm kicking around the idea of some leds again. I'm wondering what it would cost (budget friendly) to replace my 4x8 room with 2 1k lights with leds. Rather it be diy or pre made cobs or strips. I have no idea about this stuff it's like reading another language.

From what I understand, if I want to use current tech led's, it will take approx. 650 actual watts used to output the same amount of photons the HPS will produce per 4x4. I built a couple of 4 arrays fixtures that run 320 watts/bar that I use in my two rows of buckets. The cost of building with either boards or light strips has gotten really economical and folks can grow some serious dank with them. If I had to do it again I would take a serious look at those options.
Biggest advantage of a DIY build is that you can build to suit your space. COB's are a leap above the Mars but they need some thought about layout because they produce some serious localized light(hot spots). The strips and boards can give a more even spread.

Rapidled.com has all the parts. Drivers, Heatsinks, cob LEDs, wiring, wago connectors, they even sell a fuckin railing system so you don’t have to build your frame out of angle aluminum if you wanna spend for it. I’d use aluminum though if it were me.

Thank you all I will definitely start doing more research but I'll be back with a few more questions when it gets time to make the switch.

16 Samsung F-series Double row 44" strips - $40 each at Digikey, $640. Four Meanwell LRS-350-48 power supplies, 1 per four strips in parallel - $160. Frame them together in two 44"x44" frames made from 3/4" architectural aluminum angle - $50. No heatsinks needed. $850 total.

I don't know your budget but 2x hlg550s would fit your needs. If you just wanted to buy something and hang it rather than DIY

What would you run the double strips at 80 watts each ?

And this would cover a 4x8 flower room?

I wouldn't mind buying a pre built as long as it's not gonna cost a couple hundred more then if I were to build it. But I'm going to look into the lights you mentioned. I appreciate you guys taking time out to answer a question that was probably asked repeated threw the forums.

Check out pacific light concepts. If you were to get 2 of the PLC 6 that would cover the 8x4. Each light is $800. If you are looking for the DIY the Samsung FB24B are a great option for strip lighting. 6 of the FB24B($40 each) combined with the HLG-600h-48A($169) would be great for a 4x4 and would run less Amps then the strips are tested at. There are a couple threads on here that take a closer look into the F Series strips from Samsung.

I built two lights with 10 cxm-22 cobs in each powered at 1400ma giving me about 720w per light. They cost be about 600-650$ each. This is for a 4x8. It also seems they are too much light for the space, I get some light stress issues at full power. Still playing around with it though led growing def has a learning curve over hps.

(edit) a real good bet and easy to put together would be to preorder 2 of the 500w chilled led setups. They are plug and play and designed for a 4x4 each. (799$ each)

Have you tried raising the ambient temps by 5-7 degrees? That will increase the photosynthesis rate and reduce light stress.
