Lots of ways to skin a cat. I'd go with 3 x 630 watt DE CMH or 2 x 1000 watt DE CMH or 3 x 600 watt DE HPS or 2 x 1000 watt DE HPS. All would work, all would be awesome.

Are you honestly going to sit here and say you can't scrog/sog with a 600w hps in a 4x4 tent and pull decently? No it isn't optimal but you can still pull decent numbers. Gtfoh...
Yes ill tell you that. In all honestly too. Take the readings and report back to us.

whats everyone’s opinion on the topic. If it were you would you run two 1000w in 8” dominator xxxl hoods or three 600w in 8” yield master hoods in a 4x8x7 tent? Heat ect is all a non factor I’ll have no problem keeping the temps down. Tent will be ran with 8 ladies vegged out to 12-16” and this is a flower only area. Let’s see those votes!
What type of method do you use to control heat?
AC or Fan?

2 630 de will light up the tent and look just as bright or brighter to us (because of cri) but my yields suffered because I bought into the hype that they were equal to 1k hps. I now just run one de cmh in the middle with 2 600 hps on the sides. The cmh DE bulbs are expensive and the lower quality Chinese ballast are junk. I had to buy another ballast from growers choice to run the de 630 after both my original gave out. And I’m on the last of 4 bulbs. Once that one goes I’m not sure I’ll even keep the de cmh going.

As far as dudes original question it depends on Grow style and tent height. 600s are great where head space can be an issue(7ft tent). If you have enough height to run the 1ks and your plants are regularly taller than 3 feet you will benefit from the penetration of the 1k.

630 de's run/yeild more like a 750 gavita flex than a se 1000w. It's up to the buyer to determine which they perfer. And what is in their budget. I'd 100% rather have 3x 630w cmh in a 4x8 tent than two 1000w se, Or even 3x 600w hps. Side note, I do like dual 315 cmh bulb fixtures over 630 De cmh. Mostly for the bulb life over hps bulbs, and seeing plant issues quicker always helps a successful run.

Always need to choose quality equipment for anything you are doing I'd you want them to last. In this hobby or any other.

Out of the options, two 1000s, hands down. I went from a 600 to a 1000 in each of my 4.5x 4.5 tents. With the 600s I couldn't use the tents full height of width. I was flowering at 12" to keep my canopy short so I got full penetration and so I could keep them grouped tight together because light intensity dropped off allot at the edges With the 1000, I'm able to go into flower at 24", or more, without loss of penetration. Just about doubled my plants size, covered all the floor space and increased my yields by at least 75%. It's a no brainer, imo.

I'd go Led before HIDs if I was starting from scratch now.
