The Growers Bible says that they did a study on 24 hrs dark 36 hrs dark and 48 hrs dark, the best results where 36 hrs dark before 12/12 and the reason is it makes the plant realize after the first day of 12/12 that it is time to flower. So you will see your preflowers alot sooner than if you would of went straight into 12/12.

i do it anywhere from the end of theyre 12 hr dark cycle, moved em to 24 - 48 and even 72 hour dark periods ... Stress doesnt matter because its a finished product, all a dark period does, is mature resin glands, in which turn the "tri's" nice and dark .. The longer the dark period the darker the trichromes. I put em in the with tri's milky with a red top, come out two days later completely dark red and beige. Dont put them into dark period wet, always have soil almost bone dry, this helps with drying time as well .. Dont want dark tri's, put them in a 24 hour dark period, as soon as the trichromes head turned beige .. this will give you white stem and red head, for an all around high ..

wait a sec buddy ... this is meant for harvest ... not flowering, if you put a plant into a dark period before flowering, it will go hermi.

dark period is meant to increase potency before harvest ... you cant disrupt a light cycle like that in the middle of the cycle ... this whole thread is completely wrong !!!! If anyone does this, theyre risking the entire crop

I have seen this talked about a few times but never tried it.
You should let your plants show preflowers before you flower them so you know they are mature. Wouldnt that be better anyway? Yeild more and what not

I am with you there, but here's the deal~ Plant is 2-3 months old Mature and showing pre flowers in 18/6 well time to flower right. Turn your lights out for 36 hrs (dark) then on 12/off 12 and keep it that way until harvest time, then keep them off for 24 hrs before cutting them down.
The book below explains that by giving them the 36 hrs of dark before 12/12 will shoot them into overdrive when they get there first dose of 12/12 (they think they have overslept).
