48 hours of darkness

I have heard before that some growers believe that if you keep the plant in the dark for 48 hours before harvest it produces more resin. What are all of your thoughts on this theory. I am going to either chop tomorrow or put in the dark for 48 hours and then chop, so all input is very much appreciated.:peace:

Mr I Can Do That For Half
Well I have never seen it proven but it wont hurt anything if you got 2 extra days go for it and if you have a previous grow of the same under your belt come back and let us know if it makes any noticeable difference

Unfortunately, this is the first time I have grown this and only have this one girl, so the only scientific comparison would be the next time.

something i wondered bout this before is, what if instead you cut all the light back over a period of about a week reduce the light down to like 1 small cfl while introducing increasing cold until the day of cut?
Just something I was wondering about, I would test it but cant until I move in about 2months.

The common theory behind 48 hours of dark before harvest: The plant will believe it is it's "dying day" and it will push out more resin (THC) to help the "seeds" have a higher chance of getting spread around by any kind of contact.

I'm cutting down in 4 days, so in 2 days. there will be total darkness.

I will post pics of befores and afters.

i dont think itll produce more thc,,,,cannabis plants have a limit to how much they can produce,,i havta say tho that when you hang dry bud in darkness (ofcourse) it starts to look more and more frosty,,,wether it actually is???

That is also true sir. If you have them curing in complete darkness, at this point (after harvest) light degrades THC

then after so long (3-6 weeks i think) certain air conditions degrade THC.

Hence the air tight bottles for curing.:blsmoke:

Cut one of your main colas now, then put the plant in total darkness for 48 hours. Dry, cure, and compare.

in my grows i have seen a slight...SLIGHT increase in prodution of resin when darked out for 36-48..but at the cost of harder trimming..the sweet leaf kinda envelops the buds...peace az

Thank you for chiming in. I put the plant in a shed tonight where it will stay for 36 hours, then the chop.:hump:
Here are some pictures of the plant before it was put to its final sleep. Also, a picture of her final sunset.:peace:

Here is a few pictures of a bud that I cut two days ago, been drying in a dark shed, and trimmed pretty good today. Also, a picture of a main bud that is still on the plant, put in the same shed to nap for 36 hours before the cut.
