48 hours darkness?

A fact of science.... Test leafs with acetone/iodine before a dark period the leaf stains black because the iodine clings to starch in the leafs.

Do the same acetone/iodine test after a dark period the leaf stays white because the starch has been used by the plant during the dark period, it's proven science.

Does that equal better bud?
Idk i suppose only the individual can decide but personally i don't subscribe to it.

i can see how it might maximise thc, but at what cost, what happens after the carbs are used up, it has to take food or substance from somewhere, it doesnt need to loose weight, lol so it will take from someware else as i see it. and that could be detrimental to terp development maybe.?? as u say , its down to the indevidual. not for me though.
if you want more, wait untill there good n ready

Yeah, waiting until they're ready for sure but when they're ready to harvest (+ the obligatory 2 weeks more lol) it might be beneficial to burn of the starch?

Idk i wasn't promoting it, I'm just saying it's proven science that a dark period uses the plants starch reserves.

i know harvesting b4 lights on is the highest terpine and thc content the plant has, also water starvation well limitation works too. humic n fluvic acid lactic acid improve plant carbohydrate usage, so ne need for the long dark period, although, its a tough one, its also known that some stress will enhance production of terps n thc. so its like 50/50 as i see it. i still prefer not too. i like the natural way

doesnt heat and light degrade terpentines?
Terpenes, Yeah. IDK about terpentines. I run my temps no higher than 72 °F late flower and keep humidity around 50% with good results. when I let heat & humidity go up I tend to smell the terpenes before I enter the room which tells me in logical sense that they're evaporating and going into my nasal cavity instead of being retained in the buds.

If you want maximum stealth another way to achieve it is lower temps not only to keep smell down but also heat signature.
