as of now im using 12 26w fls on my 2x2 flowering area and i would like to know if i can use a 400w hps if i have very good ventilation and easycool reflector (i want to see the power of hps i already grew a few plants with fls). i dont want to buy a 250w hps when i know in the future ima expand my grow area(htg supply 400w and 250w are about the same price also).

Its def going to be a size issue, remember the reflector is like 2ftx2ft at least. Plus you need room so it isnt all jammed against the wall and such....dont want any fires. you could do it minus the reflector, just hang the fixture above with reflective material over it. when you expand the grow area, just pop the fixture back into the reflector and wallah. crude, and some light will be lost, but if you make your own reflective surface its def possible, i have seen grow ops with 6 1000 watt fixtures just hangin between the plants with no reflectors at all, use your imagination and plenty of research.

No, the reflectors are not 2 ft by 2 ft. A nice Euro reflector with inline cooling is about 19 inches long and 10 inches wide. Heat will be an issue, you will need inline fans moving at LEAST 250-300 cfm, as well as a fan blowing on the lens so that a pocket of heat doesnt build up above your plants. I would def go for it if you could afford it, you will see explosive growth.

how tall is your space? That would be my main concern, you will need your lamp to be atleast 18in. above the final height of your plants especially with the heat concerns in a room that size.

the grow space is around 6 feet but im not plannin on lettin them pass 3 feet though
If you can properly vent the lamp with 6 ft of height i think you could go with the 400. Make sure that you vent the heat straight out of the room though otherwise you will have serious heat problems and even safety concerns. If you can't vent it properly out of the room forget about using a 400 hps.

400w hps will produce about the same amount of heat as your current CFLs. So, go for it.

I started with 400w lamps. IMHO all you need is a fan blowing into the closet to move the air around. It shouldn't get hot enough for intake fans etc. In the dead of summer without air conditioning will be a problem tho'.
