400w hps indoor first timer

This is supposed to be our mother plant it is growing in soil under a 400w hps bulb. It has been growing for 4 weeks, the stem is nice and thick but I'm not really sure what's up. All of the heavy foliage got yellow spots and died so we trimmed them last week and have slowly brought this plant back to good health with some proper food. Any suggestions? The plant is 18" away from the light, is that good distance? It is also on a 18/6 schedule. Just looking for some guidance here. This is our first plant ever and we are going to use it as our mother and cut clones from it when it is ready, would you reccomend taking one clone from it right now or is that a bad idea?

Ya man wait awhile before taking cuttings form it. Honestly I'd prob wait 1 month before doing any sort of cuttings. You said this plant is 4 weeks old?? Is it form seed? If so man that looks really small to be 4 weeks old.. I'd honestly wait and use a side shute thats aprox 3 inches long. You said this is gonna be the mother right. Are you positive it's a female? What strain are you using? How often are you watering? What soil are you using? Whats the room temperature and humidity?Take a look at my grow journal and you will see what mine look like after 4 weeks using a 400w HPS for veg and I was growing Blueberry there which is a fussy strain.. https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/40199-first-grow-journal-blueberry.html

OK, first ... thanks for helping! I appreciate it.
It is from a seed. We are not sure if it is a female, just wishful thinking, trying to learn a thing or two before spending money on seeds and i am still researching a reputable source. Obviously, not sure of strain. We are watering daily, 3-4 oz. The soil is miracle grow soil. We use terracycle plant food as well. 400w hps 18" from plant.

Use more perlite in your soil and if you want a mother plant you should really use a mh bulb.
As you've already purchased a hps setup invest in a mh/hps conversion bulb for rapid growth and fimm the plant all over the place to make large amounts of tops to clone from.

You may find that the soil you have used was not really ideal for seedlings especially not for seedlings that are sensitive to nutes.
Some strains will drink really high levels of nutes and love it and be fine whilst others will basically die.

Always use seedling soil and then transplant into stronger soil and mix extra perlite into your soil at a ratio of 80% soil 20% perlite:blsmoke:

Listen to natmoon.. Honestly.. But I'd switch my light cycle t 12/12 and pre-sex that plant and see if this is even worth your time..

i think we may have accidentally pre sexed it when it was not doing well we took it off the hps for a while and then back under the flouro and some tiny pistils are visible inbetween the branches.
