400w hps + 250w hps or 400w hpa + 250w mh?

HPS + MH giving more of what the sun gives is ALWAYS a good thing for any plant...tis why people mix CFL colors during both veg and flower cycles(add a bit of 2700k for veg, and a bit of 6500k for flower) :D

perfectly said and i agree completely.. i've heard of growers that use both a separate mh and hps for flowering, and they always say the plants that are in the middle and get light from both sources tend to do the best.. good enough for me.. :)..

yah, i'm going to try this grow with nothing but mh's and no hps bulbs whatsoever... there's this company called sunpulse that makes mh bulbs in various spectrums from about 3k all the way up to 10k, and you just use different spectrum bulbs for each phase of growth, much like you would do with say cfl bulbs...
i think this is fucking brilliant and spent about $250 to prove my theory and went out and bought a 6k bulb that i have in now for veg and one 3k bulb i think it is for flowering as well.. i have high hopes for it as i heard the same things that you have op, that mh's while giving a slightly smaller over all yield when compared to hps, but they're supposed to give a slightly better end product, better resin production etc.. it has something to do with the fact that mh's contain some light in the uv range while there's no uv light in hps bulbs..

Metal halide lighting puts out a small amount of UV rays. UV rays increase levels of THC. If you want to get the most from the genetics you grow add something like the below. Adding UV lighting will do far more than just mixing/blending Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium light spectrums.

Mega-Ray SB 100 watt Self-Ballasted Flood UVB Lamp

Product Code # 100

New and Improved Mega-Ray® bulbs available soon!

This all-in-one lamp is our top-of-the-range 100 watt SB Par-38 Narrow Flood Lamp which has been shown in tests to produce similar amounts of UVB to natural sunlight! - along with adequate heat to create a basking spot at the recommended distances, in many circumstances.

This Mac Industries/Westron Lighting original design provides the necessary UVB, UVA and heat for your UVB-dependent basking reptiles.

More UVB - But Safer

Our Mega-Ray® SB 100 watt Narrow Flood Lamp produces more UVB than other true Mercury Vapor Floods, yet is safer for owners! Our design directs the majority of the UVB from the face of the bulb, rather than diffuse it across a 180° angle.

Longer Useful Life

Using cutting edge technology coupled with five years of dedicated research and testing, we have conquered and significantly reduced the huge decay rates so common in other Mercury Vapor lamps. While other bulbs decay as much as 80%, our newly designed SB bulbs decay less than 30% over the life of the bulb. This is unseen in the industry.

Mega-Ray SB 275 watt Self-Ballasted Flood UVB Lamp

Product Code # 275

This all-in-one lamp is our 275 watt SB Par-38 Narrow Flood Lamp which produces more UVB and UVA than a standard Mega-Ray® 100 & 160 watt lamp, along with more heat, and can therefore be used at greater recommended distances.

This Mac Industries/Westron Lighting original design provides the necessary UVB, UVA and heat for your UVB-dependent basking reptiles.

Specifications

Mega-Ray® SB 275-watt narrow-flood all-in-one is a 275-watt Self Ballasted Par-38 True Frosted Flood Lamp. A true flood lamp, it will disperse usable UVB in a 30" circumference at a 24" distance.

MINIMUM distance setting of 24" will produce approximately 150-200 microwatts per square centimeter (uW/cm2) of UVB and 900-1200uW/cm2 of UVA.

MAXIMUM distance setting of 36" will produce approximately 50-75 microwatts per square centimeter (uW/cm2) of UVB. (Distance is measured from lamp face to basking spot or reptile for optimum UVB and heat.)

those different spectrum mh's seem a good idea. it would be good to do a comparison between those mh and the hps.
i think i might give those bulbs a go as its known that more uv that the plant is exposed to the more thc it produces to protect itself. have you tried those bulbs bricktop?

I use a 400W MH and three 250W HPS the whole way thru in a 4'X4' closet after my seedlings or clones leave the old, faithful phototron, and I've never bought nugs as danky and stanky as the ones I turn out! Both spectrums the whole way thru is definately the best way to go!
