400W High bay shop light reflector

So I got a great deal on some old high bay shop lights ($20 each for a HPS 400w and a 400w Mh) I'm going to be using for growing. I didn't want to hang them with the ballasts on them because those transformers are behemoths. So I'm disconnected the ballast that is connected right to the socket and reflector. I needed the socket mounted to the reflector so I just used an electrical box and a metal cover, drilled out some holes and mounted the socket to it and the reflector.

I may or may not use the ballasts that were with them. They're really old and I'm told the new ballasts run the bulbs cooler is that true? Or is it just the ballast itself runs cooler?

I'm excited to be working on a project! Felt like posting it. lol
