400w HID power draw

Alright, not to flood this board with posts, but i'm curious exactly how much power a 400 watt HID will draw on my bill each month.

i know that its less than peak from my computer; im just curious if anyone has found a chart that compares it to common household appliances?

http://www.consumerspower.org/home_energy/billestimator.php

this website makes it seem like running a 400 watt HID on 24/0 will cause me to use the power of 3 air conditioners by KWh; i know its not extremely conspicuous to the power company, but im still interested in understanding the exact nature of the power i'd be using.

anyone with a background in consumer electronics/electrician's work? i'm still barely capable of concieving a killowatt hour in my head, so im very new at this.

thanks for the help again, in advance, more interested in understanding this than knowing that its not that detectable; i get that much already, just want to understand...

Watts are watts. Volts x Amps = Watts. a 400W HID will draw the same as any other 400W item, it's the Amps that get people confused thinking HIDs use more electricity than 400W worth of CFLs. a Kwh is 1000W or an hour, so if you run a 1000W hps for an hour, thats a kwh, if you run 5x 400W HPS for an hour that's 5x400=2000 2000/1000=2, that's 2 Khw. As you see you can get several kwh in an hour. and a 400w hps is gonna be the same as a high-end gaming machine and won't set off any red flags.

I decided to not play pool for a couple months. The 4 / 100 watt lights in the play room should cover the 400 watter with a few extra watts for fans
