got a closet set up going with a 400w and there has been alot of helicopters flying around lately due to the area i live in just making sure i don't pop up on there radar...appreciate all guys
400w enough to give off a noticeable heat signature???

When did you last hear about a raid from the eye in the sky picking up on a heat sig ? there is no judge in the world that would issue a warrant for this , it could be caused by untold amounts of things , do not let Police propaganda scare you , its a myth , Police rely on outside info , tell no 1 about your grow , if you cant keep your own secrets dont expect others too, keep it zipped , you will be fine , i run 4 x 600w hps in the loft at my business address for the last 4 years , failing that get an R.P.G

I wondered that myself
I've felt the hood of my reflector (400w as well
more detail in my sig if you'd like) and it doesn't seem to emit any heat at all
I can hold my hand on the top of the hood and it's not hot at all
in fact it's cool. Whether or not that could be seen by a bird in the sky with infrared or not
I don't know but
I'm doubting it. Would probably look just like another light in my house is my guess.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Your attic insulation should cover you fine. Now if you had a large grow with several 1000w lights, you might have a problem.

Look it up...Marijuana plants do give off a distinct heat sig....google it.... I saw it on a telivision show and have read it in numerous different articles.... Do some research....

You will be fine mate, i used to worry about this stuff all the time. A 400watt light is not gonna give you away, its when you vent hot smelly air out of the house it become's a problem.

Smokey, they detect outdoor plants like that, but it's not the heat sig, it's the wavelength of light they reflect. All vegetation has a unique wavelength of light they reflect, and all the helicopters do is filter out everything but that one specific wavelength, and the plants stick out like a sore thumb.

Wait, what?! lol. Dude, everything gives off a heat signature that produces heat (plants, running engines, my nuts), doesn't mean that everything has an easily distinguishable heat signature. Stop scaring the kids.
If you aren't selling and you don't tell anyone, that puts you in the 99% safe zone, everything else is just common sense. Of course if your neighbor starts THEIR house on fire and yours gets caught up in it or a prisoner is running from police, knocks down your door and uses your grow room to hide in, then yeah that could bust your ass, but who the fuck worries about that shit, really? Thats like worrying about lightning or hoping for the lottery, just stop!

No, but since they are watching you through the walls of your house with a special camera that can see your plants, you are fucked anyway.
