400W CMH grow kit for only $170?

I would love to try CMH bulbs but find every 315w set up cost's around $500 to run. Searching around I found this 400w CMH complete kit on HTG for $170. I know there a very well known and trusted company but is this to good to be true or is there just a big difference between HTG's CMH set up and Sunsystems CMH (besides the internal ballast)

would love to know myself what people think of these?? seem like a bargin to be honest.

on 600w mh and 600w hps and temps are a real problem.

Ya same temps are a problem for me as well. I hear these run a little cooler to but I might even try to switch of to mars panels to try flowering with. Definitely nervous to try that though.

Looking into these cmh and led cobs, I think the led cobs are the way forward but are expensive for a good setup will have to get saving ha.

I had one long ago, I wish I still had it. Replacement bulbs are pricey but it's a damn good light, you can use it in veg and bloom and makes super nice nugs. They run hot like any other hid, cooler is relative, it's like how you can't tell a difference in weight of two feathers and twenty. If you've got the cash get it, but make sure you're able to vent it just like any other

this is not the same as a 315 LEC. different technology. 315 uses a low freq square wave ballast and is much more efficient.

i had similar a few years ago but it was a Philips Retro White bulb, not GE. this GE bulb is not open rated ( i think) so you will need an enclosed reflector not the one shown in the pic.

it is better than HPS or MH but it's not as good as the 315 LEC

The only other things I know are the later 400 cmh were lower quality than the originals. I guess Phillips was already re-tooling for the new stuff. They were meant for mag ballasts. And I read they had a lot more green in the spectrum than the new Agro 315's.

And I disagree. I think the Hortilux 600 Super Hps is likely a better flowering bulb than the old cmh 400 as I would not replace a 600 with a new 315. I like them for supplemental so far. Or I would need 3 for every 2 600 hps.

But I was not happy with the 400 or 600 blue MH for flowering over the hps either. I would want 2 to 1 there too.

In my opinion folks. But I appreciate the question.

I'm going for a stealth grow and the carbon filter is already making a little too much noise for my liking. So I'm not sure if id want to add a intake fan adding to the noise. So many different lights and technologies these days. Never knew it would be so difficult just to choose a light!

Quantum boards if you want less heat for the light output.

The 315 cmh run a lot cooler than 600w hps.. A lot cooler.

Don't go with mars, they will only be cooler if they are low wattage because they are not efficient at all. Less than HPS.

Read into how much of the spectrum is wasted using the HID and HPS. Back in the day is was thing to have. They grew plants and did a decent job.

Now the spectrum is specifically designed to grow a plant with half of the energy draw, 1/3 rd the temps of the ballast ran bulbs.

With the older stuff, the spectrum is, 'Good Enough' with lot of the spectrum being unusable for the purpose. High pressure sodium has the lower color temperatures for flower. High intensity Discharge has the temps for veg.

Modern technology has blown away the old with the correct temperature of light for cannabis.

For me the main issue is trying to change from something i'm so familiar with ie. mh and hps. been using this type of light for the past 15 years and making the jump to led is a big thing for me.

These quantum boards do look good but are they any good for both veg and flower?

Most quantum boards are DIY so depending on what spectrum of lighting you put in it can be great for both. I'm the same way if something works no need to change the way your doing things. This will be my first grow though so i've never had experience with any lighting. I'll be going with LED's for I am curious to see what they can do.

Absoluty right. The better spectrium is from the ceramic globe vs quarts rod. The eficiency comes from the square wave ballast. Honestly cob is the way forward but oh so costly. My 315 cmh cost 239.99 and my 630 de cmh 620.00
Make a road trip to ohio and save a couple hundred bucks.

Thanks for the help! 240 is a great deal for a 315 cmh. I ordered a LED last night though so I don't think ill be needing one. Thanks though
