Man its not that big of an electric cost to run a 400 watt hps, if you look on this site under electric usage and calculate how much energy it uses per hour and how many hours you use it multiplied by what your electric company charges, on 18\6 photoperiod mine only cost me 16 dollars to run for the month, so why go for small slow growth with a flourescent when the saying is "Grow Big or Go Home"You should get a t5 cfl for veg. Saves elect. money makes great veg plants. Couple cfl light bulbs will do for sprout + couple weeks period. you can use hps 400 for total but waste of electric money and too powerfull. Plus if you want to use the t5 and/or cfl for extra light in flower added to the hps you can.
