4" inline duct fan recommendations

My recomendation is to get a 6" unless your super cramped for space. even canfan makes a 6" that is smaller. Its too hard to control the noise of a 4". get a 6" with a speed controller.
I got this fan and controller:

I know they aren't top of the line but they are decent. In my 5X5X8 room I use it do passively draw air in and through the plants, then through a 600W cool tube, with the fan located and sucking from outside the room.

It's in a basement and stays perfect temp and humidity if I dial it down to 20% speed. Extremely quiet at up to half speed, it just purrs. Don't even have it mounted, its just laying loose on a wooden shelving unit.

In my opinion the 6" fan is alot noisier then the 4". i was using a 4" for the past few years and never even noticed how quiet it was until i hooked up my 6". It makes sense to me, bigger fan moving more air will make more noise. even with insulated ducting.

If you have a 6" fan moving the same CFM as a 4" fan it should be much quieter. But if you run the 6" at 100% it can make more noise than the 4", that is why you want something to control the speed as well.

I say should because some does depend on the quality of the fan.

it all depends on the situation...the more money you spend the better and less noisy fan you can buy. For the OP, hes growing in his closet. im not sure if its in the same room he'll be sleeping in but if so, u dont want that life man. i pretty much got the same setup as the OP, growing in my closet with no windows. and ive tried everything to quiet my 6", granted its alot quieter now, im using bungee cords, dynamat, and insulated ducting. Also have a controller and its pointless cause if i wanna cool 400w in a closet with no windows i need all 440 cfm.

I have a tent slightly smaller, your 6" draws in enough passive to draw in the air
without the need for an additional intake? If I can save an extra hun on a fan and controller
Im all about it.

Yeah my exhaust fan sucks enough air around the curtain I don't worry about it. It's in a blacked out basement so I don't worry about light leaks, they are impossible.

So I'm running the fan at 20-30% speed in a basement and keeping Rh at 40-50 and temp around 70F. Just working out well, might not work as well for others, just lucky I guess.
