Please help me decide what to get.

I am getting a 4*8*6.5 tent

I have a 400w hps

Should I get 2 1000 w lights or is it overkill for the space???

a little overkill for 2 1000watt lights, but if you use cooltubes and proper ventilation you'll have way more than enough light :D Or just get adjustable ballasts and run them at a lower wattage to save power, but you'll have the power if you need it :)

i have a 4x8x6.5 tent too i think... At least its 8x4. You need at least 1000w for a 4x4 side of it, I run a 600w and 400w in one half on my tent and a 4ft 6 tube flouro track for veg on the other. So 2 1000watts will do you good, or you can do what I want to do one day, which is have 2 600w HPS and a 400w MH in the middle and put all 3 on light movers :D

I would do 2 x 600 in air cooled hoods unless you have ac or are running co2. Personally i don't like the cool tubes. Not very good light diffusion compared to a hood with glass. I think adjustable may be the ticket. That way if 2 x 1k is too much step to 600;)

no ac.
no co2, except homemade yeast regulator

I will have:

6" inline fan, and charcoal filter.

several clip on fans and 2 20" box fans

I dont know if theres an adapter but the "dimmable" feature is usually on the ballast if it has it(dimmable is stupid btw, if your gonna dim your 1000w to 60% might as well get a 600). As long as your lights are air cooled properly you shouldnt need AC.

With a tent your size trust me when i say that youll be happier with 1000watters rather than 600s. Keep your ballasts outside the tent to keep temps down. And if you want more C02 make wine in your tent or buy Exhale C02 bags on amazon theyre like 25 bucks.

i dont know i have a 39 inch sq tent an run 2 x 250 a eye hortilux~hps and a phillips ~cmh i run them together and it gets hot
you can prolly cook an egg in a tent wit two 1K's
but like i said i dont know
people think its all about big lights look at my site what i do wit 250's and good genetics
i have seen bad gardeners get only desent smoke wit 1000w
and i have seen great gardeners get good results wit cfls

either way good luck
lots of ways to play this game

3x600w is what I would do. Better coverage, equal lumen, and lower wattage than 2x1000w.

But yes you can run 2x1kW in a 4x8.
