3rd Grow: PoG S.O.G.

All comments and advice welcome!

I'm planning on 25 plants, 5x5 in a 4'x4' grow tent under 1K HPS.

I'll be growing in Foxfarm soil in 3 gallon grow bags. Might lighten in up a bit with some more perlite, and add some dolomite lime for pH buffering.

All organic nutes - starting out with some Canna Bio Vega + Rhizotonic that I have left over from my last grow, but for flowering I'm going to try brewing some guano/worm casting/molasses tea. I have my own worm bin, so I have free casting plus the worm tea that drains from the spigot on the worm box.

Clones were planted in 4" pots a couple of days ago, and will veg until I get home from holiday travel on the 31st. So a two week veg. Then they will go into the grow bags and veg another day or two until they are happy, and will then be switched to flowering. I'll trim off the lower branches at 2 weeks into flowering.

I have a pH/EC meter, and I know how to use it!

Again, I'm a bit of a newbie, so I welcome advice. All of the above plans are subject to change based on the suggestions of experienced growers.

One question - should I trim the lower growth on the plants now, or wait until the second week of flowering?

OK, I got back from holiday travel, and harvested the previous crop. I trimmed the lower growth left over from cloning, and fed the girls high N bat guano/worm casting/molasses/SPT tea.

Next I cleaned out the grow tent, and sprayed with bleach and then neem,

I'm filling 3 gallon grow bags with Foxfarm Ocean Forest soil. Should be ready to repot the young ladies tomorrow. I'll give them a couple of days to adjust to their new home, then give them 24hrs of darkness, and then switch to 12/12.

I'm planning to feed high P bat guano/earthworm casting/molasses/SPT tea during flowering, per Ohsogreen's instructions in this thread: https://www.rollitup.org/organics/93913-making-tea-ez-cheap.html

Here is a picture - they are about 12" tall.

BTW, Pot of Gold is a Skunk x Kush hybrid from Flying Dutchman. I have never seen buds so covered with resin - it looks like they were rolled in sugar. I was going to try a different strain next crop, but I am very happy with this one.

Today the 25 best looking plants got sprayed with neem and transplanted into 3 gallon grow bags, watered with dechlorinated water and rhizotonic, 15ml/gallon. Then they were moved into the grow tent. I will be starting out with 600w HPS, because my 1000 is out on loan. If they start getting too tall, I may just add a second 600.

Here they are in their new home:

Thanks! I'm brewing a batch of the high P bat guano tea right now. Otherwise not much to report - everyone is standing up straight and tall and looking happy, so I'm switching the light on to 12/12 right now.

I got 14 oz from 16 plants last go round with the same strain, but I lost a couple of colas to mold, and I made a lot of mistakes - let mites get out of control, too hot, not enough circulation. Also I didn't prune at all because Cervantes says in his medical grower's bible that it's generally better not to. Still the quality was excellent, smells great, killer hashy high, only thing missing is that there is almost no flavor - maybe that will improve as it cures.

Last time I set up a gravity feed system that allowed me to neglect the plants, this time I will hand water. I added a monster 625 cfm Grotek Hurricane fan - complete overkill for the small space, but I picked it up for $40 and it keeps the temps down, and a circulation fan. I'll also deal with any mites immediately, and will lollipop the plants. It will be interesting to see how these changes affect yield.

Interesting thing about this strain is that it seems to suck up as much nutes as you want to dump on it without complaint. My master kush shows nute burn if I get close to 1000ppm, but I've never seen burn on any of my PoG plants - actually they seem to have a tendancy to turn yellow and deficient, and want constant feeding.

nice, I'd like to know the results. You are the second person who scored a good deal on gear lately, when is my turn to score a co2 setup?

Hey Keybud, nice set up. I think your grow and mine are very similar. Your a little father ahead then i am. I am also doing all organic, this is my first larger production. And by larger i mean 24-28 plants instead of three. I am interested in seeing how yours comes along. My flower chamber is 3x5, i am wishing i had designed it better.

+ rep for the initiative

I was going to reccomend adding another light until I read your post about the additional 600.

If you add another 600 and treat them right you can count on a 1-4lb harvest. 1-4lbs is a big range but it all depends on the strain. Good luck!

Thanks noman and everyone else for the kind words.

Today the plants got their first feeding since moving into the tent. I served them a tea using the following recipe from Ohsogreen:

two gallons of unchlorinated water & add :

(2) Level teaspoons of High P Bat Guano
(1) Level cup of Worm Castings
(1/2) ounce of molasses
(1) ounce of SPT

This bubbled for 5 days. I wasn't expecting it to go so long, but the girls didn't need a drink until today. The pH of the tea was 6.0, and 450ppm. I added Canna Bio to bring the ppm up to 600.

Then I top-dressed the plants with the solids at the bottom of the pot.

Everyone looks happy - much happier than the last batch at this point, although they recovered well.

Plus, in another thread someone explained how to adjust a camera's white balance so the color is more natural.

I know vegging plants aren't very interesting to look at, so I added a little bud porn from the last round which I just harvested. I need more light, but my other 600 and 1000 are in use right now - they should be free in 3 weeks. I could get a t5 for my moms and add their 400 MH to the tent. But then there is figuring out how to ventilate 2 lamps in the tent...

Once i add more light the next step will be CO2, but then I will need another fan...

when you need the new fan, sell me th old one for cheap, wuld ya?
Sorry, I'll need two fans, one to cool the light(s), and one to vent the box if temp or humidity get too high.

Funny, I got that fan as as an afterthought - I bought a light off a guy on craigslist, and as I as going to leave he said, "oh, yeah, I've got a fan too". I didn't know what a score it was until I looked up that fan on teh interwebs.

Everything looks healthy and happy - the color is a little off, I'm still figuring out how to adjust the white balance on my camera - things aren't really that yellow.

They are stretching a bit - they may get too tall for me to use the 1000, so I guess I may have to add another 600 instead. Unfortunately that 600 is tied up on another project and won't be available for a few weeks - see bud shot.

Ok i found your journal.
All looking real good so far:leaf:
Pm me when you start the baskets please and let me know if you think your yields and quality have increased because of the baskets.
Cheers:weed:

Yesterday I stripped the bottom half of the plants. In another week I will remove all branches 1' or longer all the way up, per Dr. Vondankenstin's instructions it this post:

https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/127030-ask-dr-vondankenstine-post1794574.html#post1794574

Today was day 10 of 12/12, and budding is starting. Everything looks good except for a little burn on the tips of a couple of plants - my guess is they were the plants that got watered from the bottom of the can and got more of the tea solids than the other plants.

I gave them a little drink today - a very dilute solution of BMO Flower Power.

They are 22" tall.
