36% Hydrogen Peroxide

Were I work I have access to 36% Hydrogen Peroxide, woundering what benefits I could use this for in dwc /areo

When your temps And RH are within reason, there is no need for H2O2

36% is 'food grade'. it will burn skin and clothing

Dilute 1:11 for 3%, which is effective and safe

I use 3% to clean floors, sink, counters, door handles...

You can use peroxide for all sorts of things:
Adding dissolved oxygen to nutrient solution or fighting algae/bacteria use 2-3 ml/gal
For cleaning hydro systems or hydroton to re use a much stronger solution can be used.
Much safer than bleach to sterilize with as the H2O2 leaves only H2O and O2 behind after a few hours.

I use to use it full strength at 1ml per litre in res weekly and never had root issues but not sure if it was really necessary. But it did clear up a few things. I now use pondzyme, its cheaper lol.

I use pondzyme as well , but was just woundering cuz read somewhere that it could be used to put more dissolved oxygen in the water , I can get it for free so the price isn't anything

Hi. I have got also access to 36% hydrogen peroxide. I use them to my res, 1ml to 5l every couple days.

I do believe it has its place in a sterile res environment. If it was free I would still be using it. Pondzyme and other similar products are cheap and so am I lol. I haven't used pondzyme enough to compare but again it seemed to work very well the last run. My temps got higher than normal (late finisher) and res stayed clear. As for the DO part, I think it is still very important to get it in the water using the traditional methods re flooming, etc.

So you recommend 1ml per gallon of 36% my temps right now r up around 76 don't want any problems

The reason I switched from H2O2 was the fact it didnt seem to be fixing things when res got hot. I'm a newb so really know crap but I would suggest trying to get temps down as well. I used 1 ml per litre so 100ml per 100 litres. You may want to do some more reading though and find the consensus. If you can, you should start putting ice bottles in the res. (real pain lol) and possibly insulating it as well. Another option I see people using is tea's that supposedly allow for higher res temps. Never seriously looked at those. Sadly I shut my system down for 4 months when it gets hot.

My last run my temps were around 72-73 never had any problems it's free so I'm going to give it a shot

Sorry did you use it at 35% or did you dilute it down to 3%???

Never diluted before adding to the res.. Actually I never dilute it at all. If you can get it for free you must know its effects on the skin (turns it white immediately) so caution is advised. i am thinking that it may help in my set up for the first fill to sterilize things. Thinking then I would not have to refill, with bleach I would.

I was asking because I tried reading up on it and all the other threads said to dilute it down to 3% , but if I could add it at 35% I would rather do that and u said you added it at 1ml per liter so ill do the
Math and figure out liter to gallon ratio and go from there thanx bro

Thats weird, every thing I have read never mentioned diluting it or I would have. As I said you may want to get the consensus and go with that. I'm still on a very steep learning curve and will be for a while!

Wanting to use 25% to keep my hot tub clear because I've discovered I am allergic to the chemicals that most people put in their hot tubs. Ours is 240 gal. Anyone?

I used 35% for over 10 years in my DWC tubs. 0.5ml/L twice a week for general maintenance was what I did and my nute temps would get up like yours too. At the higher temp I'd use 1ml/L one time then the 0.5 next and alternate.

Never dilute it as it doesn't have preservatives in it like the store bought 3%. My big tubs held 50L so I'd just suck up 25ml in a 60ml syringe and add it slowly to the tub with the airstone mixing it in. We keep a bottle of it mixed to 3% by the sink to use for first aid and put on toothbrushs to keep them clean between uses.

Eye protection always and if it gets on your skin just hit the spots with a spray bottle and carry on or go run some water over it.

If it gets on your clothes it will eat holes thru PDQ so might want to watch that.

Will be expensive unless you are getting it free like the OP.

You would need about 2ml/gal at least once a week depending on how often the hot tub gets used and how many bodies are using it. Hot water is a great breeding ground for all things nasty so would probably need even higher doses that what is used in hydro grows.

Have you looked into an ozone/uv sterilizer for your tub? Ozone is O3 and works the same way peroxide does by having a radical O+ atom that quickly attaches to and oxidizes things like anaerobic bacteria and dead matter like skin cells.

Might cost a bit to get but will soon pay for itself over the cost of buying gallons of peroxide every few months.
