330cfm fan/400cfm filter (would this work)?

Would this work or would I encounter problems?
Filters are simple. Get the biggest friggin filter you can physically fit into your space. Filters are priced based on total filtration capacity. Thus, doubling the filter size doubles the time your filter will work, so doubling the size costs you NOTHING. In exchange for those ZERO dollars, you'll get about 3/4ths LESS air restriction.

Moral of the story: ALWAYS buy the biggest filter you can afford and fit

It depends solely on the type of fan. If it is a "freeflow" type axial fan, doubtfull, as they do not do well under a load. A cetrifugal (vortex) fan of that cfm rating will stir the koolaid for sure.
