315 cmh vs led

Some people claim that you need to switch up your Nutrient schedules when running LED. Do you have any pics that might help?

No not of last round, see how next one plays out, i never changed any feeding regimen, may just be something they didn't like

I will say they have been cloned probably at least 10 generations, but from everything I've been reading that should not have played a part

The UV output on CMH seems to be debated quite a bit. I've seen tests done by growershouse that shows UV output but others say that the glass used to make the CMH stops the UV. I know that Hortilux makes a special CMH bulb that they claim allows the UV.
even if CMH doesn't give off that much UV whatever it does give off the plant LOVE it. I've been using LED and CMH for a months and a half now. I think the lights compliment each other amazingly.

I used to run two 315s in a 3x4 tent. I loved that setup! I now run all LED due to lack of space (very micro setup), the quality just isn't there. I get decent yield for the wattage, but the CMH buds were always better in every way.

That’s a lot of light in a 4x4. What height are you hanging the lights at?

Any foxtailing or just fluffy buds?

Based on a rough guess of 2 months veg and 10 weeks flower that is 2280 hrs of bulb on. About 6,840 hours a year. I would personally run that bulb for 2 years before replacing. You are still well below the 20,000hrs at 85% PPF Maintenance. If you are replacing every year you for sure aren't seeing a drop in quality/yield because of a worn out bulb.
Maybe poor quality ballast?

Possible. I did have a CMH Ballast die on me after just 18months of use. I don't remember the Brand. I think it was a more generic one from Growershouse. One I have now has been going for about 2 years without issue

That is the reports I have heard. Those lower end CMH kits come with subpar ballasts.
Apparently Philips is still the best?

As far as I know, yes still best ballast (240v) bulb (3100k)combo. Also puts out miniscule amounts of uv according to Utah State(bugsbee).

Philips 3100k has of the best spds on paper, horti blue close second. Highest quality flower was achieved under the cmh in my indoor growing "career", hps yielded more every time though.

LEDs are great but can't comment on comparable quality, cause I never ran clones (control).

My newest ballast is also the cheapest one I could find, and it has been holding up good so far. $99 for the ballast. Prism lighting. I do run the Philips bulbs. The loss in quality is the main reason it went back into my flower tent after I did a run with just HLG QB boards.

72 off 80 on
80 degrees in the tent or 80 degrees actual leaf temp? I bet if you hit the leaves with a laser thermometer you will find they are much closer to 90. This one took me a long time to learn. I keep my HPS tent as cold as i can- 72-75 MAX. When the tent is 75 the leaves are 80 even with 4 fans moving air around.

Check out this 10k CMH finishing bulb. 10k finish bulb
Not sure if I would pay the 90 dollars they want for a bulb they say to only run during the last 2 weeks of flower
I dont think they are worth it. I tried one in my 1000w DE fixture because i got the bulb for 40 bucks and the only thing i really liked about it was seeing all the beautiful colors.

Interesting I've been running a sun system 315w for a year now in my ballast has failed I believe bulb started having a hard time starting up so I figured it needed to be replaced so I did now it wont start at all with either bulb just a blink of light and that's it I'm thinking of switching to all led now in my 4x4

Watts are a marketing gimmick, I use to small LEDs drawing just 236 watts at the wall total for 5 plants in a 4x4 and my buds are fine. Plants don't give a fuck about Watts.

Actual watts aren't a "gimmick." "Equivalent watts" used to market LEDs are a gimmick. You know, when they market a 100 watt (from the wall) LED as a "1,000 watt equivalent." Knowing the actual watts used to light a certain area is useful knowledge.

Yh I get what your saying, but what I'm saying is judging an area to cover by watts is useless. It's the reason why a led that draws only 100 watts at the Wall is equal to a 250w HPS etc. If you look online it will say stuff like you need 500/600 watts in a 4x4 but you don't at all I've proved this wrong time and time again with what I've grown under the lights I'm using.
