300W LED or 1000W HPS?

I was looking to up grade from 600w to 1000w hps but when shopping on Amazon, I noticed that the upgrade would cost me about 250$. For 50$ more or 300$ total, I can buy a 300W LED. Do LEDs really measure up to a 1000W HPS? I would appreciate opinions from people who have witnessed it first hand.

go hps bro i have 250/400/600/1000w ballast and i also have a 300w advancedLED grow light and i can tell you that getting a 1k is the way to go. The led is great dont get me wrong but when it comes to light output and penetration deeper is better and the led's just wont get that option to you.

LED's are way too expensive as a primary lighting option, except if you DIY or use vertically short grow spaces. On the other hand they are great at supplemental lighting. The HPS gives you all the warm colors well, but is missing the cooler spectrum/colors. This end of the spectrum helps with stem size and helps plants stretch, allowing for more bigger nugs. It's not a bad option to add something to the 600w instead of upgrading to 1000w. Some UVB + some blue/6500k light and you will be happy with the results.

I am about ready to light up a 3' x 2' wardrobe closet with a 300 watt mars Led panel, but i wont be able to tell you how well it works for about 3 months , I ran a 400watt MH years ago with great success, I am hoping the 300 watt led will be plenty of light for 3 foot x 2 foot space,, I hope which ever you pic you are happy with in the long run, have you looked into Mars leds, they have some pretty big panels or daisy chain units with enough of them can equal the 1000 watt hps, but I dont know how much you would have to spend even with thiers to be happy

I would keep the 600 watt H.P.S., and get another 600 watt M.H.and use them together. More light, better spectrum. That would be a very good upgrade. Your 600 Watt H.P.S. is the most efficient H.P.S. that you can buy.

I like this option, but getting optimal distribution is a bitch with two big lights like that. Still a great option at sub-optimal distribution. I'm actually switching from a LED grow to a LED/CMH grow. A very easy 400w ring of DIY 6500k LED could be done for about $110. Add UVB florescent and you have perfection.

Aluminum angle or channel (home improvement store/metal supply)

Get 20 (run them at 2/3 power for best efficiency, 400w), make a square around your existing light of aluminum angle/channel, mount the LEDs to the aluminum with the thermal adhesive, connect wires from LEDs to power supply, done. Optimal lighting spectrum when combined with your HPS. (except the missing UVB)

To light up enough to cover a 1000w hps I spent 3600. That is 1100 true wats of led. Just buy the 1000w. Led is way too expensive right now to justify the risk. I have low height so I rock but in 10 feet tall my shit would be weaker than some mild hot sauce.

Like stated above, any true 1000w HID replacement LED is gonna cost. The only one I've been happy with and could say even comes close to being a true replacement is BML Horticulture's SPYDR 1000. I've had Black Dogs, California Light Works, and A51s and the BML in my opinion out performs them all. I got mine before the price increase for just under $2200.00 out the door ($1999.99 +tax) now it's $2499.99 +tax (BML got a new Marketing Exec., asshole). Way to expensive to make me switch my entire setup. It's been relegated to a 4x4 tent for pheno hunting, and tents/small spaces are all I would recommend LEDs for. Now you could supplement your 600w with an LED but the Chinese drivers and LEDs you find in cheaper setups (<$500) are SHIT, bottom line. Chinese manufacturers have no interest in what we want or need and produce only what's most cost effective for them, even going so far as to change manufacturing specs from what a third party (US companies that manufacture overseas) sends them. There are a lot of really decent 1000w digital setups out there that you can get with hood and bulb for <$350. A few companies make DE bulbs compatible with digi ballasts but you'll need height to run one, has to be at least 24-28+in above canopy to be out of the bulbs infrared range.

No 300 is to little. You will need 1600 watt led to make 1000 watt hps

I have a budmaster 2 675 GOD model LED. Very expensive but I bought it more of an investment. I think it runs at 410w but it has easily replaced two 600w hps
