Wanted to know if anyone knew of the the best spacing length between HLG QB 96 Elites v2 with a 600H 54A mean well driver for a DIY frame for Veg & Flower in a 4x4 grow tent ? 6 inches 12 inches 18 inches ? cant seem to find the info and was hoping someone here could help out or steer me in the right direction for info thanks in Advance ! Big Sco.

That 600 is underpowered for 4 though. Hmmm....

I've been running each elite off one 54v 185A meanwell. So they get about 200w. Works mint and provides all sorts of flexibility around the 4 288 v2s running off the 600. I started in a 4x4, now onto a 4x8.

I would recommend spending a few extra dollars on more, smaller drivers for better flexibility down the line. The thing about growing herb is that it truely becomes a light obsession. When that obsession includes LEDs, there are infinite possibilities for expansion and upgrading. UV bars, sidelighting, etc.

For instance, I only had 1 plant in the 4x8 for a host of reasons (outdoors just came down and only wanted one indoor gal for my head). I shut down 3 of the elites, and had one direct over top (not a lot of training on her). Then the 288s got turned down a tad and arranged as sidelighting.

The result is massive chunky buds top to bottom. Granted, there wasnt a flattened canopy above to hog energy, but I may have to look into some bottom lighting w/ bars or something.

Notice the top of the lower bud that bleached out? It sagged into one of the 288s. Lucky it didnt cause massive problems.

Underpowered? Not for a 4x4, and running LEDs softer increases efficiency.
Two fixtures is more versatile than one.... I like two HLG-240's, more versatile and cheaper than an HLG-600.
I don't think three boards is a coverage problem, just not ideal.

Run the 3 off the 600 and grab one more on 185A (true watts closer to 200) and you have ideal coverage. 2 of em do great for a 2x4 area. 2 veg a 4x4 very well.

I was saying the 600 isn't a great choice if you added one more fixture. Those can handle well over 150w each.

Putting 600w in a 4x4 isnt necessarily underpowered, and is certainly capable of producing good bud. Coverage will likely be the issue. If you keep with it, youll be dumping the money to expand/improve eventually.

Youll want some sort of triangle set up.

How many plants are you running? 3 larger screened under each individual source would allow for great usage of each fixture. It would likely allow you to visibly see the spots where coverage isnt ideal (these produce buds that are dense as hell. When intensity drops, so does density). Ill get weight numbers off that pictures gal. She got hung up today. Big, dense, main stem stressing colas (and its a thick stem!) Top to bottom. She sagged and curved even when held by a few points when most the ties were down.

Good luck!

The 600H is perfectly suited to run 4 of the elites at 54 volts, 2.8 ma for 151 watts for each board. A nice balance between efficiency and total output and WILL run a 4x4 just fine. Generally for leds the idea is to not run them at max wattage for higher efficiency. If you don't care about efficiency you might as well run some HPS DEs and or CMHs.

as far as driver cost, two hlg-320H is better than 4 hlg-185H or 1 hlg-600H

OP. A member named Or_Gro has a very detailed thread on the elites. He has specs on 1 elite up to 6 elites at varying heights and wattages. As @PurpleBuz stated. The 96's @54v and 150ish watts each is ideal. To answer your question, the spacing between them is dictated by your application.
18-22" is recommended in the thread. 1x185-45 meanies each for the most flexibility.

you don’t need more than the 600h. I run 6 qb 96 in a 4x4 and get great results running em around 500w total.

You could run 3 off the 600h and do fine. Just spread them out. Keep em nice and high.

Or get a 4th and then run them in a square a little bit closer to the canopy.

Either way 600 watts is more than enough for a 4x4
