2x2 Tent Setup

Hi guys,

I'm looking to build a LED for my small 2x2 tent. I would like to upgrade my tent to a 4x2 at some point, but it is not a main priority. I'm interested in keeping the price low, and of course not blowing stuff up

I have looked at the following equipment but would like your input on the setup:

• 2x Vero29, BXRC-40E10K0-C-73‎
• ‎HLG-240H-C1750B‎
  
• SynJet® Round Bridgelux Vero 29 Heat Sink - NX301117

Let me know what you think.

4x Citizen CLU048-1212 90CRI GEN6
4x 120 mm Passive Pin-fin heatsink
4x Ideal holder
1x MeanWell HLG-185H-C1400B Driver
+ 100k dimmer / thermal pads / wires / wagos

I would drive them at 1050mA btw. I prefer 1 cob per sqft for better light distribution
Citi 1216 are $3 more and luminus cxm22 +4-5usd

That seems expensive for a 2x2 tent.

I originally thought of copying a Migro 100 light or the Optic 1 as they should be able to cover the 2x2 sufficiently. (Unable to post links for the lights as my account is not old enough).

I like leds cause of efficiency/efficacy and light spread, I build my lights around these 2 points.
I don't know what's the efficiency of V29 at that current but I can say cxm22 are better. If you already know what to get just pull the trigger

Vero 29c beats the CXM22's by quite a bit when matched watt per watt. vero 29d 's are pretty close to being the same CXM's beat out the vero 29D by only a couple hundred lumens. The 29C's put out 1500 more lumens then the CXM's thats getting beat by more then 15 %. Now why are the CXM's better again because they sure don't put out more light then a top of the line vero.

Keep in mind the price.
Btw I have some graphs, like ppfd/w of different cobs.
Probably it's better to summon @CobKits if he is willing to chime in with its numbers

Looks good to me. Personally I'd prefer strips in a 2x2 since most 2x2's are height restricted (you didn't mention height).

I like to use strip lighting for small grows. May I suggest a lowly aluminum cookie sheet and some F-strips. This one is a 200w version, but add another strip and go with a 240w drivers. About $200 for everything.

Height is definitely a concern as well as the tent is 5 feet tall.

How do the LED strips compare to the COB's? I watched a lot of growmau5, and he is mostly set on COB's.
What brand and model should I look out for, and can I get the same PPFD output, for a lower price using strips?

Soldering is not a concern, as I'm electric savvy, but I know little about lights and LED's.

I use both in my grow. The strips are MUCH easier to build into a fixture and also have better uniformity of light spread. I use the strips primarily during veg and then add the Veros when intensity is needed. Both are excellent choices, strips and boards are easier to build.

I grown with both strips and cobs.
Not that much difference in a 2x2 space... well, any difference in light spread or final product.
Building is easier with strips since you can use aluminium channel rather than bulky (and hard to find, at least for me) heatsinks

Unfortunately it looks like it's hard for me to find the Samsung 1foot LED strip SI-B8V521560WW, in a low quantity.

Isn't 2x vero29's gonna output much more light though?

in a 2ft tent you can fit 2ft strips.
Btw digikey has many SI-B8V521560WW in stock

Not a big difference in light output. Btw you can design your fixture with more or less strips/cobs as you need.
