2x2 Tent Setup for a Light User

I'm not a huge smoker. I can make a lot go a long way. But with that said, I love growing things. It's just something that I like to do whether it is a garden or turf grass. So this is completely for fun and not looking to grow a shit ton.. lol

So far, this is what I've got on my buy list:
VERTOR 2x2x48" Tent
VIPARSPECTRA 300W LED (The more research I do, the more UNSURE I am about a light choice)
VIVOSUN 4" Carbon Filter
VIVOSUN 3 Gallon Fabric Pots
4" Duct
Timer (In case I do a normal grow instead of auto flower)
TOPHORT 4" Inline Fan

My 2 main focuses:
Filtration
Lighting

I will be putting the tent in a closet that is under our steps that wraps around. So very discreet. But, I still want to eliminate all the smell. Whatever it takes to do that, I want to do. I'm not worried about the smell during harvest or anything.. but I don't want other people coming to the house and getting a nice whiff.

Lighting.. I thought I found a decent light. But then I read all these topics and people throw out all these other lights that are way better.

Also, one more thing to note... I will probably only do 1 plant at a time.

Do I need to make changes to my selections for filtering the air?

For odor control, in addition to what you already have, maybe some ONA gel and an Alen air purifier. Also keep in mind that HLG produces great, full spectrum LED lights. Look for ones that cover the 2x2 footprint. With the short height, be mindful of possible heat issues near the top of the tent.

Thank you for responding. I will definitely look into the ONA Gel or Air Purifier.

As far as the height.. I am kinda in a tough spot there. The way the closet is made, the height is low in general. So 48" is about as tall as I can go. I'm definitely open to ways of working around it. Would you have suggestions on working around the heat issues? Certain lights help in that aspect?

I think that's a great start. I actually bought that same light, but mine's still in the unopened box since I went a little crazy and started ordering a bunch of HLG's before I unpacked it. I think it's a great starter light, and you can get some practice. When you get the grow-bug bad, you'll start buying more and more shit, lol. I can't believe how much I've spent now, hahaha.

Spider Farmer SF1000/2000 over the viparspectrum all day. I've run the vipar as a supplement light under my hps's have to say I'm currently trialing 2 x SF2000 and 1 x SF1000. My vipar is now in a box and sold on ebay.

Also Alibaba sell these lights who sale approx $120 plus shipping. I also have to say I'm very impressed with the output from the 1000 unit the 2000 unit is over twice as bright due to great numbers of LEDS, Power draws and obvious space. It's nice to see a lamp rectangular and not square like most other units (talking about the 2000) for you growing in elongated spaces.

when people think that growing is just a fad but in real its just as worse as coke you get addicted to the little things
No kidding! I lost track of the number of gadgets and 'upgrades' I've bought. I just pay the Amazon bill at the end of the month...never look at it!

OP:

That's a good list. Tent has metal connectors/corners so that's good, and you're thinking of a lot of the right things. Quality basics to get you started. If you're concerned with a stealthy grow, that fan is kinda loud. Look at the AC Cloudline T4. It isn't much more, but also comes with a temp/humidity control unit that will help simplify things for you. It's damn quiet and moves a lot of air. You can use the same carbon filter you were going to with it. Just a lot quieter.

I agree with @Silentvirtue . The SpiderFarmer lights are really nice. That, or a MarsHydro TSW1000 will suit you better and aren't that much more. (some come with the timer too, so you won't need to spend the extra $10 on one.) You're likely going to want to upgrade your light pretty shortly, so may as well start with something a little better. In a 2X2, you're not going to need all that much light, so going with one of the higher-end retail lights would serve you well out of the gate. As many have said...they started with the light you were thinking about, and upgraded it pretty quickly. Take note of that.

You'll want to think of medium and nutes too. Lots of guys grow in coco. I'm using coco loco from Fox Farms and I'm quite happy with it. Nutes are never-ending, and you'll want to pick a plan and stick with it.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

We've all got a few old blurple's collecting dust in a closet. It's part of the learning process.
I think we all have. I have the same problems with tools and mountain biking gear.

I'm an advertisers dream, it normally goes something like this. Have I got a deal fo....... Bleep goes the card hahaha!

We are all guilty of buying fadish shite. For example i remember about 10 years ago buying a new type of reflector as it had gone from some cunt and his hammer making reflectors to a machine pressing them. I think it cost me like a fair bit too for what it was. Guess what made no difference. It was used but only because I was lazy and couldn't be bothered to swap it back!

Also I've been very sceptical of the blurple only spectrums and the anti green section of the spectrum brigade.

There's a ton of research in to how plants use the middle part of the spectrum especially for lower canopy development due to green lights ability to penetrate leaves and canopies.

Couple of links if your interested. First two are from DR Bruce and a third from DR Harley Smith

- towards optimal lighting spectrum

- lighting myths busted

- plant essentials Inc lighting quality and spectrum explanations.

Roll up kick back and learn some shit.

Damn you guys are super helpful. I was worried about getting a bunch of messages telling me how stupid I was or something.. you know.. typical online forum BS. Got quite the opposite. Thanks for that.

Im gonna go through your suggestions and see if I can’t put together a little more quality rig.. and check out those videos posted.
I agree with you guys.. I’d rather spend a little more on something to know I’ve got better long lasting quality.
Thanks again!

And my nutrients.. I thought about the basic General Hydroponics Ferts I see people post? Like $35 for the 3 pack.

Also.. have you guys messed with Humic Acid when growing? I’ve used that to help the soil on turf grass.. but I don’t wanna waste it if it has benefits really.

And lastly.. I had just thought of using a regular good quality soil. Haven’t thought about the coco.. suggestions?

Well I used to grow with just Ionic Grow Ionic Bloom and PK boost with some success in a DWC system and had some good results it just lacked a certain zing.

So I started experimenting. I now run the full AN line in coco and love it.

As for feeding you will get some strict Nazi who are like omg what are you doing feeding it like that or people will just say shit like noob. Unfortunately you do get them.

Basically you need to find what works for you, start with a simple line up of base nutes, Calmag if youre in hydro, a sweetner like bud candy or UNSULPHURED molasses, pH up/down and a PK booster and you won't be fair off.

People comment and call me a noob for using bud candy at 1ml per litre in veg but I find it helps with the fungus and bacteria I use and give the plants a very small amount of simple sugars a huge amount of evidence is presented by DR Harley Smith from NPK industries on soil/soilless micro biology.

One thing to bare in mind is that if your in soil your PPM/EC/CF is a damn sight lower.

I'm a sucker for citing so I've attached it.

Here are two other quite informative videos on growing. The guys a bit long winded occasionally but knows his stuff well.

I made my order today! I'm all in now..
Here was the final list of what I ordered:
MARS HYDRO TS 1000W Led Grow Light 3x3ft Sunlike Full Spectrum IR Grow Lamps for Indoor Plant Commercial LED Grow Hydroponic Growing Light with Updated 342 LEDs Dimmer Thermometer Hygrometer Timer

Garden4Ever Grow Bags 5-Pack 3 Gallon Aeration Fabric Pots Container with Handles

And for the seed.. I went with White Widow Auto Seeds.. I didn't have a big choice with all the crap going on in the world right now. But from what I could tell, this is a decent strain? Either way.. I got the BOGO 10+10.. so 20 seeds lol. Plenty to mess up on.

Anything I am missing? I'll be getting soil.. just searching for best pricing with shipping.
Oh.. I gotta get the PH stuff..

I can tell you are excited, and I believe you are pretty much good to grow. I see you decided not to get the Viparspectra and go with the Mars. Good choice as the Mars generates less heat. You should consider a few things: small clip on fan, extension cords, a Mini dehumidifier, jeweler’s loupe magnifier, gloves, plant tray, pruner shears/scissors, aluminum tape, watering can, mason jars and a small digital scale. Do you plan on doing any training? Now is the perfect time. Happy growing.

What do you mean by training? Are you referring to LST? Or training on this whole grow thing in general?

Yeah I gotta look into the clip on fan.. I've got extension cords. Mini dehumidifier I'll look into... I have gloves, but not sure if I can get more right now or not (with everybody donating theirs to hospitals).. Have a scale.. I'm sure there will be plenty more i need lol.

BTW.. I thought about seeing if ILGM would do a 10/10 split of the feminized/auto of the White Widow... Do the autos put out a decent plant or would it be just as easy to go with feminized? I'll have the timer to deal with lighting.

I guess the main thing that intrigued me about the auto plants would be the ability to start another grow halfway through this grow.. Kinda always have a plant in the oven after 1 is harvested...

Andddd.. I've got a 48" tall tent.. so that limits me too I think.
