277 Volt ballasts

hey, i have an opportunity to pick up a trio of good metal halide lights for very cheap, but they are integrated with 277 volt ballasts. now, i dont know much about electronics, but is there any way to purchase a ballast for home use and hook the fixtures to that?

also, are the 277 volt lights somehow less attuned to growing? i assume they were originally for industrial/commercial lighting and someone took them/stole them, so i dont know if they are suitible

thanks for the help guys

I am assuming you live in the US. if so you will have a 120v/240y system at your house. So in order to make that light work you will either
a) need to replace it with a 120 transformer
b) check to make sure its not a multitap ballast with multiple voltage leads (alot of industrial lighting in multitap) or
c) buy a 277v to 120v stepdown transformer. Although the last option will most likley be expensive.

Well if its more expensive than just buying a conventional kit then im not interested, but with option a did you mean i could just use a standard ballast with the light or that it would be more complex than that?
