250W HPS in 30x16x60 cabinet?

Hi everyone, this is my first post here but I've been lurking for a while. My first grow is 3 weeks into flowering. Right now it's just 6x23W CFLs in a big laundry hamper with a PC fan. It's going pretty well thanks to all the info on this site. However I am looking to upgrade my setup to provide more light and better ventilation.

For my next grow I would like to use a cabinet that's 30" wide x 16" deep x 60" tall. I am thinking about using a 250W HPS in this cabinet such as this one:

Two questions: First, is 250W too much for a cabinet of this size?

Second, if the cabinet is 30" wide then it's probably 29" on the inside (I haven't bought it yet). The reflector on the light is 19" long, giving me 5" of space on either side of the cabinet. Is 5" enough room to bend the vent hose at a right angle?

I've seen 400W lamps run in simple sized wardrobes. It's all in how much air you can move, my friend.

Heat can always be counteracted by a corresponding amount of ventilation.

To be more direct about your question, yeah go for it :)

Just take care of temperatures accordingly.

you can easily put a 250w light in a cupboard that size. in the same sized box i ran a 600w hps, now i needed a cooltube and a 6" ruck temperature controlled fan but even with the bends in the venting pipe i had no problem keeping temps where i wanted them.

the only real problem is floor space i got over 1g per w on my last grow but needed to do a staggered harvest as lighting from the top was not best

if i were to build the box again i would use 2 400w lights mounted on the doors and do a vertical grow with smaller plants instead

so yeah if your willing to spend you can easily fit 250W+ in that box

Thanks for all the replies everybody. The space issue was the last thing holding me back but it sounds like it'll be OK with proper ventilation. What would be a good fan for the light?
