i thinking bout gettin a 250 hps for my nest grow, but it will be a stealth grow in a pantry/cupboard. how would a 250 hps compare to around the same amount watts of cfl? and would heat be a real issue with such a low watt hps?

every talks bout cfl are cheaper, but after buying all the cfls and shit, you will prolly spend the same amount for the 250 hps. just concerned about heat, and if the yield will be better. I really dont want to run a cool tube, but if i have, i might

I payed about $12 for a pack of 10 13w CFLs

I am not using one, but I guess you could use the 250 hps inside a Cool Tube...

I think I saw on ebay... a 400 HPS with ballast and cool tube for 189 bucks...

With a good fan on the cool tube, you can have the lights really close without burning...

Remember, I am not using one... so this is just my 2 cents...

Good Luck...

I'd go with the HPS as it is the tried and true standard.

As far as heat goes, 250 watts of electric is 250 watts and the heat should be about the same whether it is HPS, MH, INCANDESCENT OR CFL.

Everyone gets worried about HID bulbs because they are bright, at the same time wouldn't have a care in the world over putting (4) 100 watt incandescent bulbs in the same place and that would be putting out more heat than a 250 watt HPS.

Just run some fans and hang a thermometer, you'll be amazed how cool everything stays if you have air circulation.

well the dimensions are, 12"x22" and 6' tall. i think a 250 hps would be great, i want a good yield. but should i just go wit cfls, will heat be a huge problem with a hps? and do i need to run the cool tube outside? thats a lot of work for a rental house.

ok, well i hope all goes well with it. i can set up fans in there no problem

sure that would work...

but so would the 400...

The cool tube really makes a big difference in the heat issue...

The other guy who said 250 hid vs 250 cfl vs 250 flouro tubes or whatever puts out pretty close to the same heat was right. If you plan to run that much, and yes in that closet, I'd do the hps for sure.

HPS has a much higher lumen to watt ratio and much longer penetration for using taller depth to grow taller plants with more bud.

The yield really is that much better for roughly the same heat.

You could grow with less though, technically. That'll grow more than you can smoke even 24/7 x two people.

lol that wat i like to hear. so im def goin to need to get a cool tube??? and how much is a posible yield in something like that with a 250 hps?

oh and yes, i kno the journal quite well. But he is using cfls. And is doin an amazing job

There are a million ways to do things...

I am flowering 5 inch clones with the following...

2 x 23 watt CFL 6500k
3 x 9 watt CFL 2700k
6 x 26 watt CFL 2700k
1 x 35 watt HPS 1900k
2 x 70 watt HPS 2100k
1 x 100 watt MH 3200k

So yeah... you could use the 250... but if you wanted you could use a 400 and kick ass...

i think the 400 is way overboard for wat i got going on
I plan on using 200w between flowering and veg , I might take the plants in flowering and put them into the veg area since I want to have the most watts in veg for faster veg growth:leaf:

I suppose you could ventilate differently, but in my opinion, you need a cool tube... regardless of 250 or 400... that way you don't have to worry about the heat nearly as much...

I have heard of 400 watters 6 inches from leaves without burning, using a cool tube with a strong fan...

there are even DIY threads here on how to make one...

ROFLCOPTER BOMZ U!

my 400w hps will burn the shit out of you compared to 400w CFL.

but its all 400watts only difference is heat and cost.

I went from a 2ft fluoro for veg to 12/12 with cfl(4x13) about 3 weeks into flower i went to 400w hps and shes doin ok. im disappointed cause its been about 2 months i think since i went to flower and im not showing shit for a yield. but shes been through alot.
