25 yr old + seeds?

Had an old friend of mine dig these up from his storage. Kept dark and dry for as far back as 25 years. Whats the likelihood of getting any of these to pop? I'm pretty sure theres some NL from around the mid 90s in that mix. Fingers crossed.

id do some experiments with different germ methods! Good luck!!

If the ones in that container are what I think they are I'm going to be thrilled! ha But I'm trying not to get too excited because I know its a longshot.

I wouldn't count on them germing
but also I'd do alot of research while keeping those beans in preserved conditions until you get a few different methods to try, and start with the beans you don't think will make it

Haven't got my hands on them yet. Have no idea what the bagged ones are but if those beens in the container are tiger striped coconuts I know exactly what and where they came from.

Yep. I'm going to get all my ducks in a row before I even make my first attempt.
But I have to assume whatever they are they must have been worth saving over the years. Fingers crossed.

if you dont have your hands on them try to communicate to him to try to be sure to keep them preserved for the sake of germing them (now that they are out of storage). they are most likely unviable but with your help you could help whoever has them bring them to fruition. If he just wants money I would consider bargaining and offering to give him cuts in trade for the seeds. you will be using your time and resources to try to even pop them so, with 25 year old seeds this would be a miracle but I hope it works out for you two

Actually hes my oldest best friend. After visiting and smoking up some of my bud the other day we got talking about old genetics etc. It must have jared his memory and he remembered he had kept these seeds through several moves and mentioned he thought he still had them. Boom...two days later he sends me this pic. I'll have them in a few days next time I see him.

I've never grown Northern Lights myself, but I had a buddy that did back in the nineties. He was in the spy rock area of Mendocino.

At any rate, I still have NL seeds from him from around 98-99. He also gave me some labeled FX and some random unlabeled ones at the same time.

I've been doing some reading lately and have heard about really old seeds still being viable using a germination method with sugar, and maybe hydrogen peroxide. I'd have to reread.

But it is pretty amazing to hear about some of these old seeds still popping. Fingers crossed that your seeds are the ones you hope they are, bud.

All depends. I was gifted a shit load of seed from a relitive of a dead underground breader and my germination rate was 1/40. Got a vile of 3 seeds suposedly breed in the summer of 1980 and all 3 poped. If stored properly in stable conditions seeds can stay good almost indefently. Its not that hard to make seeds be unviable also

this site has a bunch of products but I don't see any way to buy them
I also looked up any reviews and I cant see any, but the stuff that's on there is intriguing. Perhaps some of the products are worth at least going down some rabbit holes and finding a few things to experiment with

The plot thickens. These look eerily familiar to what I was growing during the same time frame. I'm 95% sure of it.

Germinating old seeds is the new version of opening old safes

nice quality soil mix give it a handfull of worms then a few weeks or so in the pot outside in the rain

once it stops raining or hand watering for a while and the worms are still happy when you check, then put the seeds in

and bring it indoors

I soak old seeds in fulpower

ive grown northan lights from back then and dry and in the dark arnt everything, you should realy keep them in the fridge for best results,
you may get lucky with a few of them, but i was taught and have read that fridges are the best for seed longevity

First things first clean the seed coat with a mild hydrogen peroxide solution then germ em in good organic soil with plenty of worm castings popping old seeds is easy ime if its viable it will go keeping em alive past sprout stage is a different matter many will just give up due to depleted seed energy stores from all those years in storage imo folk reckon pinto bean juice might help with that as for germination some seaweed extracts and also tomato seeds soaked overnight in water contain some enzymes that can help too ive had ok luck with old seeds i still have many left older than 25 years in the seed stash its just down to good storage ig theres also gibbrelic acid but thats lil more tricky to get right without messed up growth etc

I germinated some Cinderella 99 seeds that my mom bought back in like 2003 from Holland. All 6 popped, they were just kept in the retail package. I forget the seed company because they have a fuckton but they should be good if stored properly, the seeds my mom gave me were in her closet for those years.
