24 vs 18/6 vs 20/4

strain, medium, etc. play a roll in the decision. My general approach is to give them as much as they like... if they don't like it, I don't like it. If you have sensitive girls in the same room as some sun lovers, you have to kinda feel for the sensitive ladies. OG's are famous for this.

Im a firm believer thant plants need a rest period. my Vortex droops really bad right before the 6 hour lights off period. then they will reach for the sky when lights come on. thats telling me they want a little darkness in veg. plus on 18/6, it gives my veg room a few hours to cool down a bit in this summer heat

It's 18/6 veg and 12/12 flower, no reason to use anything other then those time proven schedules.

So the incredible yields others get here that use 24 a day in veg for a period or 20/4 are unreasonable? Lots depends on the strain, the limitations of your grow area and more.

People are getting incredible yields from using 24/0 or 20/4 light schedules? I did 20/4 a few times and noticed nothing. Straight 24/7 seems unnatural being IMO vegged plants need some darkness. Great yields usually come from techniques, that not being one of them. I remember thinking topping would get me more yield, when in fact it caused more stress and gave me my lowest yields. I have the height, so trimming up bottom branches and lollipopping into week 2 of flower are what gave me my large yields now. Veg is kinda secondary to yield in a way. I can just veg longer if I wish to get a bigger plant into flower. Looking back at my hand written journal I see it took me 50 days of veg under 20/4 using T5s early on and a 400 MH mid to late veg, where I got to the same sizes I wanted using the exact same set-up in 46 days using 18/6.

hormones build up over the dark period of veg that will absolutely benefit your plant in flower.

so give the plants some "rest" during veg because they aren't really resting, they redirect their energy overnight to other important tasks.

18/6 makes for the happy results.

Odd. The Alaska Thunder Fuck we grow outside here where it is never dark for much of the summer is far bigger than outside grows further south with fewer hours of light. Same with the cabbages we grow. Absolutely huge. Nothing like it grows in California or Texas. Coincidence?

Genetics can play a huge roll in size alone. I have seen plants here in northern California that are HUGE 10-15 feet tall. The longest day here is only about 15 hours.

There is a whole lot of debate out there and I expect none the less in here but I am also hoping that a couple guys in here will give me what they do.
There is no debate, science will prove that every living thing grows when it sleeps period. 18/6 until flower. Go check out my last posted thread, overnight growth, it is amazing what they do when the light are out. Kind of like real girls lol turn out the lights and look out.

ATF isn't "from" Alaska. It was created in Alaska.
i didnt really specify created or natively from, so no need to really correct me.

regardless. the plant has been growing there for how long?
plants adapt just like everything else.

My bad bro. I had an explanation ready but I didn't want to instigate bad blood. (Subcool) already hates me... Excellent example. (I'm from Alaska btw)

I understand that there may be validity in your findings but to the contrary, if your opinion were true many of us who follow the 24 on rule would be growing dirt instead of cannabis. Mine grow just fine in 24/7 light.

I don't think that one is better than the other. I haven't ever seen any increased growth from 24 on. So, in my opinion it's just a waste of energy to keep your light on 24 hours a day. regardless of how I feel about the benefits from a rest period or straight 24 hours. I don't see a difference in growth rates so why keep the light on an extra 6 hours.

I apologize in advance for helping this thread go off-track.

Matanuska Thunderfuck is a catch all term for the great weed coming out of the Matanuska Valley north of Anchorage, Alaska.
This slang has been around at least since the mid 70's (when I began smoking pot).
The term Matanuska Thunderfuck predates Northern Lights, Skunk or any of the other building blocks upon which modern polyhybrids are introduced.
There isn't a strain or clone or hybrid seed made from some mythical MTF.
If you are purchasing seeds or cuts referred to as Alaskan Thunderfuck you are dealing with genetics that were brought to market. No one refers to MTF as Alaskan Thunderfuck, outside of the cannabis market.
The growing season in Alaska is legit, but short. Not good enough for outdoor pot. But give us 20 years. Global warming may make 61ºN a contender for agriculture.
And yes, there was pot (and seeds) before we came up with cool names for pot.

With that said, I believe the artificial transition to 12/12 can best be approached with an 18/6 to 16/8 vegetative light schedule.
Peace be with you,
HV
