24 hours to 16 hours to 12 hours? possible?

I'm vegging in soil 3 feminized seeds.

they've sprouted last night and I put them under lights this morning (amazing how fast these things grow)

my question is:

I want to veg them until they are 3-4 inches with CFLs, then turn on my 600w HPS...

can I veg them with the CFLs for 24 hours a day, then when they are 3-4 inches in height, switch them to 16 hours with the HPS?

or will this make them flower?

thanks!

Johnny

18 hours of light is the norm for veggin. Any reason to go to 16? Don't see it being an issue. Though at 16, plus a HPS, you might see a bit more stretching.
The 24 under the CFLs is fine.

thats dumb. i'd keep the cfl's on 24 hours, and have the hps on 16 hours in addition to the 24 hours cfls. but it'd be better if it was on 18 hours, and they'd probably grow even faster if you put them under the hps AND cfls for 24 hours.

I would have the lights on there 24/0 both of them. That's how they will grow the best with both spectrum's, I read a thread awhile back and it was about which is better 24/0 or 18/6. As its still a preference to the grower, its seemed that 24/0 had the advantage of a lot more "growing" time. Allowing the plants to be "done" a few weeks earlier to switch to 12/12 than if they were on 18/6. Any lights on over 12 hours should not begin to flower unless growing an auto flower strain, the off time is for root development. So if you are cloning or wanting root growth you should switch to 18/6. Otherwise I would keep'em on! Good luck!

I like this idea.

it would be alot cheaper to veg with cfls, it prob would take a little longer but saves some money. cfls for veg, hps for flower sounds alright to me!
