24 hours of darkness????

I got some white widows from seedsman and im 6 weeks into flowering and i was wondering is it ok to leave the plants in 24 hours of darkness for the last 2 weeks? I was going to flower them for 1o weeks so if i do try this i would start it after the 8th week. I got this info directly from the attitude seedbank's website. It says that 2 weeks in 24 hours of darkness will really bring out the trichs. Now im sure that this isnt good for certain strains but is this a good idea to try with seedsman white widow like the attitudes website says? Also is there any risk that could come from doing this? And is 2 weeks a little long i was thinking maybe a few days of 24 hour darkness but 2 weeks seems like a long time.

I don't imagine a plant could keep growing for 2 weeks without any light. It doesn't store that much

Yeah 2 weeks is way too long. 24 hours!

I know someone that does 10days. brings out the crystals like crazy

are you sure that is what brings them out?

Trichs are like the sunscreen of the plant, so the more UVB you have in your grow room, the more Trichs. but i would do a side by side comparison if it is the same strain

Yes i have done side by side, pulling a plant before darkness, 1 day into, 2 days into. I do three days of darkness and i can confirm everyday of darkness adds resin and crystals

ya but are those resins and trich actually been converted to the psychoactive form in that amount of time? is may be resin but that doesnt mean it gets you high. we wait 3-5 weeks for those things to mature and get cloudy. i just dont think it can turn in 2-3 days of darkness. but you can add intermittent periods of light, along with your HPS or CFLs, during flowering will, over the course of flowering, increase the resins adn let them mature.

have you heard that adding a MH the last few weeks will increase resin and potency. id rather have more potency than more resin, wouldnt you?

I've seen this 2 weeks stuff before, and while I don't think they would have completely pulled that out of there ass, I would imagine that with 99% of strains that 2 weeks would be better spent on 12/12
While I do believe there might be some credibility in several days of darkness, I don't imagine that a plant could continue to function at any useful level for the whole 2 weeks
Then again I've never put a plant in total darkness for 2 weeks straight

it can but it will suffer. it would probably use its stored starches and energy would run out rather quickly. since it is dark, the plant will be stretching for light, using a lot of energy. soon it would pull it from its leaves, which are already being drianed to make the BUDS.

Yeah I would think anything it could pull from itself would run out quickly, especially since it won't be getting any solar power to help out. With that strain I would cut that 2 week rule down to maybe 4 days tops
I haven't really heard of anyone going longer than that with a total dark before harvest period

and take some all the way to harvest with 12/12

ElectricPinapple - Yes mh last two weeks also helps, i forgot to mention i also add ice to my rez through out the darkness. This causes plant to stress and create large amount of resin during few short days of dark period. This results in very sticky weed which if done correctly will cause oil to build up and even pour out of the ends of joints. Sticky rezzy weed will always be better smoke than dry bud imo.

why yes sticky weed is better. but it is the fact that all of those trichomes are mature. which is why we wait so long, other than the last 2-3 week swell in size, so they trichomes are mature which will make it more potent. the resin you put on may make it more potent, but if you double the resin you are not doubling the potency.

I agree the plant has to finish. But when its potent and ready to come down, give it a few days of darkness and ice if u can and u will be amazed with the results

oh i definitely plan on it. and im not argueing with you nor trying to disprove anything. just debating over if it truly increases the potentcy, which i theory i believe it wont that much, but in actuality it really could. i will be doing a side by side with my SLH im growing out right now. have two plants. both will recieve extra UVB but one will get 48-72 hours darkness and the other wont. i will start a thread and will have many test opinions with different tolerances. to see which is more potent. my next personal grow i will not give them the UVB to see if it changes anything

maybe if you want it look better... but for sure not 2 weeks maybe if you really want once your about to clip them maybe give them 2 days dark

so mode grow, whats your take on it, does that resin increase, always increase potency equally

i throw about 3 4kg ice blocks in each day in my rez. during darkness. A very important part of this is the rez stay around freezing 0c or 32f.
